Futaba Servos for Kangaroo

Futaba Servos for Kangaroo
I am interested to know what Futaba servos people are using on their Kangaroos/Hotspots.
From the specs the 9350s or 9451s look the best but they are designed for cars/boats. Any problems with these in jets? Do I need to spend this much, or are slightly cheaper servos up to the job?
I would like to stick to futaba to match the rest of my kit!
Any suggestions as to whether I should go for metals gears, or are they not required?
Thanks

RE: Futaba Servos for Kangaroo
hi there, i use futaba 9450's in my roo, it uses 4 for split elevons, they give 8kg pull each which is ample and they are digital, the only down side is price and power consumption, they are about £90 per servo and drain battery power for fun other than that they are excellent!! hope this helps??

S9202 servos are actually very good and reliable. They have enough torque to pull you through all possiblt manouvers right up to 200 mph. Their actual torque is in the 85-90oz range. Plus, they are around $50 each ....
As for using car servos in aircraft, i use S9404 monster truck steering servos for my 4 point CCPM in my turbime bell230 helicopter ... I find the car servos offer a lot of torque, and are built a lot beefier ..
Hitec servos are also a good buy, but thats if you get good ones that wont go bad on you .. I have had several fail, and tend to stay away from them now on $2000+ planes/helis, however i will use them on my cheaper prop jobs ...

Siclick,
Best servo for elevons on the roo would be JR DS8411 (or the new DS8611, actually in your part of the world I believe it is DS8511). You can use one servo per elevon and reduce current draw and $$$. You can use Futaba stuff for the rest of the controls, no need for digi's there ..... Dual servos on the elevons is unnecessary..... BTW, futaba will have a new servo out soon with torque comparable to the 8611 (8511).

RE: Futaba Servos for Kangaroo
I used 2 off 9303 Futaba servo's metal gear, excellent servo's plenty of power, never missed a beat in hundreds of flights.
Used elevons, did not split, never had a problem.
Hope that helps

Used to run 9303's
Fast powerful and not ot expensive.
Model was clocked on radar at 203 mph, never had any problems.
Hope that helps.

The 9303 is discontinued, I was thinking that the 9206 (Metal gears, dual BB, coreless, 138 OZ/in of torque) would also be suitable. Any opinion would be appreciated.

Hi,
Ive used Futaba S9252 digitals for split elevons and for rudders, only problem is you cant use a 6V battery power supply with these servos.

RE: Futaba Servos for Kangaroo
I just picked up a dozen 9451's for turbine and heli use. As far as I can see, these are very fast and powerful units. There's no comparison between these and my 8411's! The 8411's are so sloppy I wouldn't trust them. The 9451's are tight as can be, very nice. I think you can buy them for about $75 each, that's a lot less than what I paid for the JR stuff. Do they even make 8411's? I would think JR would only sell the 8611 and hope everyone forgot about the 8411 gear train lol! BTW, Futaba's got some real monsters with the 9152 and 9153. I'll leave those for the 40% 3D stuff, a little overkill.

RE: Futaba Servos for Kangaroo
I think JR are aware of the gear train issues on the 8411 and the new servos address this problem. I have gone for the New JR 8321 for elevons which are similar to 8411s but have 9KG torque. I'll be using four of these so no worries there. I've just seen the Futaba 3305 servo. I don't know if it's new but that will do for the speedbrake. Loads of torque, metal gears and I don't think I need the precision of digitals on the brake.
With all this and the 9151s on rudder I think battery power will be an issue. I think I will go with JR 4.8V 1900mAh Nicad. Futaba don't seem to like 6V or Nimh.
