Default Li-Poly Question

I just ordered two 7.4 800 MA Li-Poly batteries off of ebay and I own a HB II, stock. If I connect both of them in Parallel, will this give me a longer flight time, or will I run the risk of burning my boards? I read hear on a post (can't find it) that someone said if you connect them in parallel, then the combined milliamps will not harm the bird. Thanks.

I don't think your board can even handle 11.1v.... 3 cell.. and now u thinking to connect 2 7.4v together.. ur funny...

In parallel - your correct.

Same voltage in parallel, greater currant rating.

Therefore 7.4v 1600mA.

Don't know about the weight?

be sure to connect in parrallel you will have the same voltage. but i think youre better to use only 1 battery to keep weight low

sjgusmc21 ,

You can connect them in parallel(+ to +, - to -) to get a combined milliA rating of 1600mA

You will DEFINITELY BURN your board if you connect 2 of these lipo packs together; In series, you will have a equivalent to 14.8V(actual voltage will be 16.8v!!) and current will be same as one pack(in your case 800mA)

I've heard from people here that a 800ma Lipo pack will last about 10-15 minutes.? Dunno if this is true. But if the total of the two batteries in parallel weight's less than the regular birdseed (<80ish grams), then you are set. Else if it wieghs more than the nimh pack, you may not get as long flight time....

Just for the record, I just got a 2cell etec 1200mA lipo and it works GREAT. about half the weight of a nimh and double the mAhour. I got about 15 minutes of flight(continuous hovering in one spot, don't ask why I did that! ;-)

Make sure if you do this that you charge them seperately.

Thanks all for your fast response. My HBII is unfortunately down right now (waiting for parts from HeliHobby....won't even go there yet), so I am trying to get the battery situation taken care of. Also, what is the cheapest charger I can find for the Li-polys? I have seen a kit on ebay for 35 dollars, but I understand you get what you pay for. Again thanks and wishing you all, parts-free landings!

sjgusmc21,

if you are a tinkerer or would just like to try, goto:

www.shdesigns.org/liion-opt.html

I think its only a few bucks for parts, and you must supply a 12v 1A source.
If you are charging higher than 12v(for 3 cells) you will probably need a greater than 12v supply.

It is a very good charger. Must buy parts and build yourself but the price is right, although users should send some charity money for the designer.

I just put a 7.4v, 2100mah in mine and I'm getting about 25 minutes of hovering. I haven't had a chance to try it in FFF, but I would think I will get a good strong 15 minutes of flight, and that is more then enough flying time for me (need time to shake it off ). Lithium is definitely the way to go.

I just got that 32 dollar charger from ebay, and it does work good. Fast shipping and I bought the one already assembled for 3 bucks more. The only thing I want to do is put it in a housing for protection.

Thanks alot for all of your helpful support! I will try the batteries, one at a time to start with, then maybe in parallel. As for Heli-hobby, I just received my order yesterday! I ordered the stuff on Monday morning, and received it Thursday afternoon. IMHO, that is good service, but this is the first time I ordered from them. I might try the charger off of Ebay, for $32, not bad. However, I am leaning towards going ahead and dumping $100+ for a good charger. I don't know, something is buzzing in my head, 'Danger Will Robinson' about the Ebay charger...... Thanks again for all of your GREAT HELP!

The Triton is a great charger for the added cost, as you can charge up to 4 Li cells or 24 NiMH/NiCads.

Xorpay,
Is this the li-poly charger you bought from ebay?:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=2563
If so, the max charge rate is 425mah, then it would take ~3hrs to charge 1200mah battery?.
Thanks.

I have got the swallow charger. It is about 100 AUS but it is the best charger for price. When you sais that you are going to join the batts together, Did you mean solder them togerther or actually plug them togerther? You do know that there is very important information you should know about soldering pollomers togerther!!!!!!!!!!
