Default Inverted YS 120AC??

I'm thinking of moving my YS120AC to a different plane and mounting it inverted. It has tons of flights mounted upright as well as on its side, but I've never tried it inverted. Anybody have any experience with one in that configuration? Did you have any problems? Thanks.

The YS motors are the best running in the inverted position due to the pressurization system. I've never had a problem with any inverted! My 120AC was right at home like that. The only thing is you will have to lean it slightly from where it is now. Good luck and happy flying!

Don't know if I'd agree they are best when inverted, but all the YS's run just fine inverted because of the regulated fuel system. Nearly every YS I have mounted was inverted.

The only issue I've ever had with inverted YS engines is that is is possible to foul (soak with oil) the plug which can make starting a bit more difficult. If you experience this problem, get a smart glow driver, and/or just leave the booster on for fifteen seconds or so after the engine fires to work the oil out.

Cheers!

I have 3 YS 120 AC, one installed inverted in W.M. Extra 300 (perfect combo) and had no problems at yet(3 years old plane)

Engine starts first turn with electric starter. Also no problems of oil acumulation in glow plug.

Best of 120 4 strokes!!

Thanks for the info guys. Inverted it will be.

What prop are you using? I tried a few different props back when I first got it and settled on an APC 15x10. Have used that size/brand on it for years. Am thinking about trying a 16x8.

Aegis

I tried many props. Best fit APC 17X6. Turns 8800-9000 RPM. Vertical unlimited in my 10 # Extra 300.

My favorite prop on the 120 is the 16x8 for all around flying. I've had a 18x6w on it for 3D. Spool up was a little sluggish. I'm putting this motor on a DP Ultimate now and am going to run a 17x6 on it.

Thanks for the prop info.

One of the valves broke so I bought a head assembly from YS. It has a different valve keeper technique and is suppose to make a little more power. Am anxious to get it mounted and try it out.
