brakes (not about upgrades!)
i was crusin my savage by the lake and drivin around when my brakes
"fail" and i stop my savage 3" from the water ( i no driving next to the lake was stupid but I THOUGHT I HAD BRAKES!!!) i take it bak to look at it and notice the the brake rod, on the side, is getting caught on the rubber cap knob for the trani. i cut the knob off and it works just fine now. has anyone had this problem?

RE: brakes (not about upgrades!)
you running the stock brakes?
i still am. having 0 problems with fade too.
use the method from another forum
measure out the length of the fuel tubing that is on the "brake linkage shaft" (terminology is probly off)
and the take a bic pen or similar and cu an equal amout of the ink tube off and thread that onto the Brak linkage shaft and put the fuel tubing over that. the rubber flexed too much the pen tube is much stronger (obviously) try it it only cost .15 cents for the pen and 10 min of your time [sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]

My DD brakes are coming off the next time I tear down my Savage. I've had nothing but problems out of them. I'm going back to using the stock brake with a heavy duty brake hub. No problems at all using that setup.

If you take off your clutch bell and replace the stock plastic clutch shoes you will be able to stop much more quickly. I suggest replacing them with metal shoes and if you want you could go to a 3 shoe system . Put in stiffer springs too so that it will engage more responsively. The idea is that the faster the clutch shoes disengage, the quicker you will be able to put the brakes on and have the savage stop with no friction applied from the spinning clutch shoes. Give it a try, your savage will stand on end when you hit the brakes. I did it and have had no problemms since. Refer to your manual as to how to change the shoes, a bit difficult but after a few tries not that bad. Your will notice a HUGE difference!
