Aerohawk battery pack
I melted down the battery pack that came with my Aerohawk heli trying to "fast-charge" it with a 12v power supply. My internet search engine came up with tedani.com as a source for replacement parts - however their prices seem to be too good to be true - (NiMh battery pack for $15) - which usually means it is too good to be true. Has anyone had any good or bad experiences buying from this company? Thanks very much for any help. I'm so new at this hobby it is fun just to watch the rotors spin. Someday I may even get off the ground but at the rate I am going it is doubtful.
thanks again for any help offered -

RE: Aerohawk battery pack
Thanks for the offer of 2 for $20 - you should have no problem in finding a buyer (AllisonMO) with that price. I already ordered a new battery for the $15 price - time will tell how good (or bad)of an idea that was. Has anyone done any homework on fast chargers for NiMH batteries and had any success?

you mean 15 for 1 pack or 2 pack... if it 15 for 2 pack... i might go out of business... .... j/k well not using them... just want to sell it for some candy money...
How about this... Lithium Polymer 2 cell 800mah for 22.00? Brand NEW... don't mix this with the stock battery.... brand new... hehehe... anyone interested you can pm me... i got lot of these battery..and currently still waiting for my other stuff require for my heli... didn't even touch them yet.. .brand new..

RE: Aerohawk battery pack
If you take a look around the posts all the guys who have been flying for a while are using lipo or li-ion.
Why dont you save your money on those crappy nimh packs and concede that maybe they changed to the new packs for a reason ?
BTW I have 3 packs I wouldnt mind getting rid of (2 of them from Tedani) I am in Australia though...

RE: Aerohawk battery pack
Thanks for your input/suggestion on using LIPO's instead of NiMH. It appears there are advantages and disadvantages on both sides, wherein double packs are possilbly too low in voltage for the Aerohawk and triple packs are too high and have done some serious burn out damage. I would be most interested to hear more about the success or failures from other Aerohawk owners.

RE: Aerohawk battery pack
Jack: your are right about the voltage... 2 cell is to low, but remember since the lipo is haft of the weight tof the stock... so it doesn't matter, you still increase the proformance of the bird pretty well... I rather use 2 cell then 3.. because first of all, regular stock aerohawk, you can't do 3d stuff anyway? why do you need all that major power 3 cell for? Then you might burn out your board... some people have been using 3 cell on the pcb board.. but some put heat sink... some cut hole for air.... But no one know that it will lessen the life of your board.... So im guessing the 2 cell is good enough for pcb board...
As if offer some of this battery (NIMH stock), im not using, im not trying to trick any of you guy... if you want it then i sell.... I personally think it a reasonable price... 2 pack (pretty much new) and charger... for 20... Well thanks anyway.... i sold it on ebay already...

I am using a Thunder 1320 Mh/ 2 cell 7.4v on my Aerohawk and it works excellent!
Dump the Nimh batteries...unecessary weight...Its worth the investment.

RE: Aerohawk battery pack
This LIPO battery discussion picking up some interesting points and arguments and I'd like to add a few of my own. The AAA NiMH batteries weight in about 12g each for each cell - times seven - yields about 84-85 grams for a stock Aerohawk battery pack? I don't have a scale so maybe someone could weight it for this discussion. Current rating for the Aerohawk battery back is rated at 750 mah (which means theorectically you can supply 750 ma for an hour) but that is probably 20% higher than the real world.
On the LIPO side - a 1320 ma twin pack (7.4v) weights in at 55 grams which at first glance seems to say a 35% reduction in weight and a 44% increase in battery capacity. Sign me up!!! But - there are a couple of hitches in the getalong. Firstly - they are .8 volts lower in voltage than the NiMH battery pack. Does that effect the rotor speed and performance?
Secondly - the LIPO's ain't cheap. Typical $50 for the 7.4v twin pack and another $70-80 for the special charger - and yes LIPO's require a special charger. Using the charger that comes with the Aerohawk won't work for lots of technical reasons and will in fact destroy them if you insist. Anyone who wants to learn more about charging LIPO's might want to have a look at --- http://www.batteryuniversity.com/index.htm --- Some real good reading stuff there - not super technical - and lots of info. Lastly - and this is the one that got me to thinking twice - they can NOT be fast charged. Fastest charge time is 3-4 hours for a good charger. The NiMH battey pack on the Aerohawk can be charged in 15 minutes if you got a smart charger.
Conclusion: Maybe when I get to the point I can actually fly and ready to extend my flight time - LIPO's will be worth looking at? In the mean time I'm still scooting on the floor and working on trimming and balancing and teaching my fingers that flying a heli takes a lot more eye-hand coordination than picking my nose and scratching my ear.

RE: Aerohawk battery pack
some good points raised there Jack. I run 2 cell lipo batts in my heli and have found them to be worth the extra money. Charge time in actual fact is about 1.30 to charge the batt to 90% which gives about 15mins in the air. The weight difference compared to nicad is a huge gain for one it cuts down on crash damage to skids etc and two the thing flys a heap better.
Chargers are coming down in prce as well. I got a prolux 2 cell litum charger for $60. NZ about $30 us. It works fine.

RE: Aerohawk battery pack
What is the most successful Lipo battery for the Aerohawk?
I see people using the 2 cell
But who has the longest flight time(tipped over 25min), and whats the details(voltage, mAh cell type and arrangement).
Sorry if someone has already mentioned this somewhere.
Thanks heaps
Kris

RE: Aerohawk battery pack
Hi all,
first thing im spanish excuse my rude english
Im currently using the stock batteries and ermm....i havent enought time to learn to fly and battery duration is tooo short, i tryed to read all the posts in eletric helis about batterys, nihm poly voltages etc etc etc
I want buy good batterys (without fry the board using it) and a charger for it , 15-20 min of duration will be fine, suggestions and online shops will be apreciated. (Quality and most cheaper possible)
Thanks in advance.
P.D: Spain havent good rc shops

How comes thy last longer or thats what i have heard even though they are less voltage.

RE: Aerohawk battery pack
[8D]I would recemend the Triton Charger from Great planes.
Its pricey at $129.00 but gives you a lot of info during and after your charge.
It does Lipo/Lio, Nicad,Nimh and PB batteries.
It charges my Thunderpacks 2 cell 1350mh in about 30 min with a 7.50v reading prior to topping off. and truely brings it to read 8.4v!
10-15min flight times before T/R wagging begins
Cheers[8D]
