Default SmokeyDragonfly ESC destruction!

Completely toasted my ESC today. Tried to run 1300 Thunder Power (3s) and poor little ESC did not seem to like it. Need a new ESC for my Mini Dragonfly that won't bankrupt me, but that will handle 12 volts. My DF has 370 motor, PCG-03 Gyro. Any suggestions?

Your ESC should be able to withstand 3Cells (12.6V). U do not use any high current item over there so should not be any problem also. Your burn out could be you crash land with main throttle still high/on/not 0% and therefore u kill your motor. Try to create a habbit of quickly throttle to 0% when u do encounter crash.

Another possibility is that you got the bad ESC out from manufacturer.

Vomit,

The GWS ICS100 for main & ICS50 for tail are probably the cheapest, unless you are will to build your own?

Thomas's ESC kit comes cheap and handles 10A minimum.

Guys, I have posted several times about using a 5amp quick fuse in series with the battery. This has worked for me and I know of others who are also using this method... Too late now. Maybe next time...

Yes, I should have put a fuse in!! Questions (albeit probably stupid ones[:-]): Does the fuse go on the red or the black wire to the battery? Are you using the glass tubular or plastic chip fuses? Thanks for the info

Hi

It doesn't matter whether the fuse is in Black (-ve) or Red (+ve) Wire. Either way will work. As for what type of fuse, I recommend pico fuse instead. Pico fuse is like a resistor size or shape. It is good because it is small and light but it might cost more.
