RE: question about the DA-50 engine
Are the lines straight up and down like possible scratches ? Or are they
curled like a piece of thread. Reach in there with a really sharp pencil, and
see if the scratches are deep, or just appearance flaws. If they are deep
enough to feel with the pencil, you might want to send the engine back. []

RE: question about the DA-50 egine
They are probably the criss crossing honing marks, were they hone a bored out cylinder, If they look like hair line scratches that is probably honing.

RE: question about the DA-50 egine
If the piston has been run up and down at all there will be scratches on the cylinder wall. The cylinders are usually coated with a hard surface that the cast iron ring wears against. Unless the scratches are deep there is no cause for concern. What's deep is difficult to describe but any decent engine person would recognize it. BobH.

RE: question about the DA-50 egine
If the "scratch" is directly opposite the exhaust port it may be just the line of oil left where the piston ring ends are. Don't laugh, I had a DA50 returned to me because a customer thought there was a score on the cylinder bore. Stick a cotton bud in and see if it wipes away.
