I'll get back to those photos when I in a couple of months is standing here with frozen fingers and trying to get a decent landing on that material that you are putting in your drinks....

I still have "warm" memories of slope-soaring in the wintertime...

Landings on day-old snow were interesting. (after the top layer has melted slightly then refrozen, so there's an nice "crunchy" layer) Your sailplane would touch down and sliiiiiiiiiide for 30+ yards. We held contests! Longest slide... knocking over plastic cups after touching down... touch-and-go! (difficult, but possible)

Landings on fresh powder were nigh-imposible. No matter how perfect your approach at touch down your plane would go flump! and vanish into the snow

Tucson, Az. R/C paradise. Here we fly 52 weeks per year from a 600' x 100' paved runway. No snow, hurricanes, tornados, or alligators.

Just 100% fun in the sun.

Phoenix AZ. RC H.E.L.L

Summer- too hot to fly after 9am, evenings too hot unless there are clouds, but this means the monsoon winds and a dust storm are on the way. Winter- temp is perfect but the flying fields are clogged with Snowbirds. There is no Spring or Fall.

NO grass fields. Which means few sailplanes or anything with out gear. All the paved fields (2 or 3) have severe encroachment problems, noise restrictions, limited hours, Nazi neighbor's, baize club officials or some combination of all. The other couple of dirt fields are, well...dirt. The only shade is what you bring, or what ever lean-to survived the last dust storm.

No wonder all my friends golf. The beer cart is only a whistle away.

I devide my time between Phoenix and Seattle. I am one of those snowbirds someone was griping about.
The last time I was in Nevada there was a flying field at the Chicken ranch.(Full scale) Is that closed now?

Couldn't let the opportunity pass to add one more to the
NC list. I'm in Mount Airy, NC (Mayberry). But as a lad I lived
in Calexico, Calif. and I can tell you about HEAT. One guy
said he was 60 and didn't know everything-well, at my age
I'd better know everything because I don't have time left to
learn much more.
