RE: Passion 3D
Did two days of heavy flying with my passion there the weekend. In flight the firewall came loose and engine hanging off and luckly landed in time. Please do beef it up.

RE: Passion 3D
Thanks for the factory link ! ! I have the CMPro Giles 202 3D as well, build quality & covering very similar to the Passion 3D- but it is still in the box. Have flown a friends Giles 202 3D with an ASP .52 - very nice little plane. There are some threads about it on RCU - from the UK I think where it is the Flair Giles 202 3D. As for the Passion 3D - in addition to firewall mods I will also support the tail group with a wire brace - it adds almost no weight but takes a lot of strain off the tailgroup. Will post some pics of my firewall and tail mods as soon as they are done. It is interesting to hear that standard Futaba 3003 servos on 6V works well - at 6V they have 56.8 oz of torque. I am using Hitec 475 on ailerons and Hitec 605 in the tail, also on 6V NiMH.

Thanks to Passion-4-3D for confirming the firewall weakness issue. Here is my fix - make a paper template of the firewall including the thrust lines, then make a second firewall from thin plywood (I used a doorskin), glue in place, add "locking strips" to the sides of the fuselage, fuelproof it all. Other mods so far - added contrast strips to bottom of wing (remove the covering between the ribs and keep the transparent covering to use as patches later if needed).

RE: Passion 3D
I decided to replace the nylon gear train in my GWS C11 servos with a metal gear replacement set. It was only $2.25 a set in canadian dollars. Did that last night, now the servos seem to be really tough. When I got around to installing them back into the plane, I now notice what the damage is from the last time. Although I had reglued the stab into the slot (glue contact was poor the first time) and it held strong, the flutter transferred from the elev. into the stab, and down into the fuse sides. The stab flutter has torn out a bunch of the fuse sides!!!
Holy Crap!
I'm lucky to have landed the plane.
So I think I'll reduce the servo travel a bunch, and I'll replace the CA hinges with Robart hinge points. I'll likely also brace the stab/fin/stab with some 2-56 rod, or some flying wires.
Any other suggestions? I was hoping that I could replace my Somethin' Extra with a plane that could 3D better. I'm still hoping...

Mine 3Ds it's ***** off. The extra large control surfaces are absolutley necessary for 3D manoevers, you just have to keep the speed down. So far, mine has done just as I expected it to do.
