Default Yes the .70 Surpass would be good....

.....but for pretty much the same money, I would
go for the .90 .
I know it sounds a bit much, at first, but it's not
too much motor. These newer 4-strokes are real
easy to tune nowadays, and are dead-bolt reliable.

But the .70 would be good too....

Default Kyosho power???

Just wondering, anyone who has the Kyosho p51, what engine are you using, Right now I have the tt pro .46, and it flies the plane good. I am going to put a 4 stroke in it I just dont know what size would suit the plane the best. Kyosho calls for a .50 size, but has anyone used anything larger? (I would like a little more speed out of the plane)

Also I fly off a fairly rough field and was thinking about putting retracts on it, can anyone recomend a good heavy duty set that will hold up to the abuse?

Thanks for your input!!!!

Default Best P51 ARF

I replaced the stock retracts with Robart Mechanicals in my WM P-51. The strut is a bit thicker than Hobbico. I use then on an 11lb plane and work fine. Also "glass the inside area of the mounting blocks. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen retracts pull out or go through the wing on simple landings. I have been flying mine since June and no problems.
I also run a St G.90 with a 12/10 apc prop. It can handle it. If your uncomfortable, throw a 61proor fx in it. I mount my .90 sideways. I have to remove the head to get the cowl off.

Put either a YS 63FZ, OS 70, or a Saito 72 in it and you won't be disappointed. If you are aiming for speed, then go with the YS 63.

Ez makes it. Essentially it is the same as Dago Red. They are fairly fast, maybe the 115mph range. They won't win at real pylon race. I've seen others turn speeds in the 160 to 170 range. How ever, if you just want to kick around your home field, they are plenty fast. The only thing is, the box says it comes in between 6 and 7 pounds. I believe the model is supposed to be designed for a 46. But that weight sounds kind of high for a forty size model.

As far as the durability of EZ's. I have had three over the

years. They aren't that durable. If you accordion the fuselage, your done. However, I have given them a pretty good lick without any consequences as well. Generally, the damage is extensive enough, although usually not that apparent at first, that the repair will add enough weight to kill the magic. Energy from an impact tends to radiate a long way thru an EZ model.

As for there price: When I was in my twenties, I wouldn't dream of spending that kind of money on a model. Now in my forties, with "time" being the precious commodity, they are a bargain! They always fly very well, they always look good, and they save me months of building time. For a hundred bucks more than a kit, its more than worth it to me. I don't expect them to last as long as a kit. In five or six years, they really start to show there age and maintenance goes way up.

So much for comments, tell me what engine I should use. I am thinking the new OS50 or a 46. I love Os. I have had real good luck with them. What are you guys running on the EZ dago reds.
So what mustang are you talking about that go 160 to 170 range? Is it the ez dago red?

6 channel will fly her,, You have 2 ail servos -2 flap servos -2 elevator servos these are paired up via Y-harnesses into 3 channels that leaves 3 channels for the 1 throttle servo -1 rudder servo-1 gear servo, now your out of channels,

All things considered you can't beat a WM Mustang. I have two of the 40 size mustangs. A Dago Red with a Saito .72 in it which give me all the power I want/need for that one and a yellow one with an OS 61 2s in it for racing. It goes like a bat out of you know where.
I am flying off asphalt and have never had a problem with the retracts.

I originally had a Surpass .70 in my WM Mustang. I replaced it with a Saito .91 - only 2 oz. heavier. Mounted inverted, so I had to open up the bottom of the cowl. It looks anf flies great, but I need to add a little more right thrust.

Yes, it rained that day. But just a little.

Are you doing anything to beef up the firewall or retracts on yours ?. Doesn't seem to be a whole lot holding the firewall to the glass. Usually I pin the firewalls with 1/8 dowels but doesn't look feasable on the Dago
Thanks

Default Best P51 ARF

I have the WM Miss America. Has an OS .46 fx and flies nice. Can take off in about 30-40 ft and flies really fast. I also would agree that this plane does not exhibit any bad habbits. I also flew mine at a warbird show with a guy that had the Great Planes P-51 with the same engine and the WM could fly circles around that plane. Unfortunately I have gotten into flying pattern and IMAC and mine has only flown 3 flights in the last 6 months so if anyone is interested I would sell the plane with the engine and servo's, also retracts and retract servo for $375 shipped to the lower 48 states. Email if interested. I have a couple of pics I am posting.

Default IronCross....

....I mixed up a batch of 5-min epoxy, and dumped it into
the fire-wall area, and kept turning the fuse around till
it hardened. I got it real good inside there before I put
the tank in.

I also went all around the wood in the main cabin area, and epoxied the heck out of the wood-meets-fiberglass areas.
Then I used a thinned coat of epoxy on all the wood for
fuel proofing....

I'm sure I added a couple oz's of wieght, but I like "stout".
The retract areas were just fine.....

Yes all 6 channels will be utilized with the JR662. I have that radio as well and the biggest drawback to it is that there is no proportional flap knob. With this radio one is limited to one flap setting. Of course, I realized that would bother me AFTER I got the 662. Oh well...

I just got back into the sport after 13 years and not sure how I would use 9 servoes on a six channel radio?? No hobby shop here to help me out.

Channel 1 = throttle servo
Channel 2 = 2 aileron servos
Channel 3 = 2 elevator servos
Channel 4 = rudder servo
Channel 5 = 1 or 2 retract servos
Channel 6 = 2 flap servos

You connect two servos to one channel with a Y harness.

Default Best P51 ARF

Since my original post....asking about which Mustang you all would recommend.....I now have two Mustangs (1 WM Dago Red & 1 Kyosho) and have not flown either one.

I stopped all of my RC enjoyment this past summer to build a shop/carport on our property and that took all of our time. Once that was completed.....it was winter time and flying was on hold as well. I then began to look into RC off-road stadium trucks and monster trucks and that is where I have spent the better part of my time this winter....enjoying that aspect of the hobby. I never thought I would get hooked on off-road rigs but I have.

Now...here I am once again....thinking about airplanes and getting the bug to build these ARF's for future enjoyment. I know this thread is an old one but I wanted to say thank you to all of you who took the time to post your thoughts and experiences with your Mustangs. I have really enjoyed reading all about your input....thoughts....expressions....engine size recommendations.....and photos.

Good job guys and thanks again!
