1/4 H-9 Cap 232 What engine?
I was wondering what everybody is running as far as engines on their 1/4 Scale Hanger 9 Cap 232? I am getting ready to pick one up and need any recommendations. I'm looking for some good power. I currently run all glo engines, but would not be against running gas.
Thanks for any help.

I have heard that before. I currently fly the crap out of my fazer as well as an even smaller funfly that was scratch built. I can take out a 32 ounce tank and fly for hours. Things might be changing

Moki 1.8 all the way
I've got the Moki on mine. Plenty of power, strong engine. And it runs on cheap (FAI) fuel. The Saito 180 will eat you out of house and home using 20% Nitro. Nice engine, but I wouldn't want to feed one.
Get the Moki, break it in according to instructions and it will do the trick.

MVVS 1.6
Mine will be powered with a MVVS 26IFS or a 1.6 gasser.
There are a lot of threads here which will provide more info.

I currently have a mds 1.48 in mine but I don't like it. The motor runs good some days and some days not. Someone told me the carbs where junk but I didn't believe them, now I do. I would go for a gasser if I had it to do over again. The plain flys great you'll love it.

Believe it or not, it's true.

Anything much above 1/2 throttle on the Moki 1.8 is really only useful for vertical madness. With the Moki on this plane, you just don't use high throttle that much. Even in a harrier, somewhere around 30% throttle it starts to suck the tail under and tries to stand up.
That said, the guys at the field with the Saitos (150's and 180's) on the same plane are draining a 20 oz tank in 10 minutes.
And the real kicker, the Moki is designed for and perfectly happy running $9 a gallon FAI fuel. The Saito's love to burn the much more costly 20% Nitro fuel.
And the biggest difference, the power. Swinging a pro-Zinger 18x8 the Moki gives this plane vertical the Saito just can't.

Go gas, no bearing problems, easy starting, no more fuel bills.
Everyone that goes gas never looks back, less clean-up too.

1/4 H-9 Cap 232 What engine?
I went with the BME 50. With four servo's mounted in the tail, I didn't have to add any weight to balance. I didn't even have to move my battery back in the fuse.
I'm really new to planes and only have about 20 to 25 flights on my trainer. I couldn't resist taking my new Cap up the other day though. It took off and flew great. I made one practice approach but decided to have a friend that has been flying for years land it for me. I probably could have landed it but I was so in love with how it looked, sounded and flew that I decided to not risk it so soon.
You can see some more pics of it here if your interested.

I had a Cap 232 with a 3W-24 and it flew great with the power of a Saito 1.50. I am now in the process of putting a Super Tiger 3250 (with an ASP carb of course) to see how that performs.

I have had 2 of these planes, both had BME engines on them. One with the 44 and the newest one with the 50. I sold the 50 and I am waiting for the new 55 XTreme to come out. It is supposed to be lighter and more powerful. SAVE ANY WEIGHT YOU CAN if you go with gas. I tore all the covering off to check the airframe out for glue joints and then did LOTS of lightening. With the BME50, I got it down to 13.5 lbs., hoping to get just under 13 with the new 55.

MidMadn,
I'm jealous, that is a beautiful looking airplane.
I'm finishing up mine right now -- will try to a get decent picture taken this evening. It doesn't look anywhere near as nice as yours and is done in the traditional Matt Chapman color scheme.
I went with the Moki 180 on the nose. I will start out with a Zinger Pro 18x10 but hope to move to a 20x6 if it is appropriate.
Some of my mods:
1) Blue carbon fiber landing gear.
2) 3" Tires (will switch to 3.5" if I can -- grass field)
3) 24 oz Dubro fuel tank just in front of CG
4) (4) HS-5625s digital servos for airlons and elevator
5) (1) HS-5645 digital servo for rudder
6) HS-422 standard servo for throttle (installed behind firewall)
7) Dual batteries (2100mah 4.8volt NIMH on MPI Miracle switch, and 1500mah 4.8 NIMH on 2-pole MPI switch)
8) Servos, RX, and batteries install just aft of CG.
9) 3" Big Bird Tru-Turn Spinner
Everything else is farely standard, including the CA hinges. I will be pinning the hinges and sealing the gaps with transparent monocote. CG is currently set according to instructions and is adjusted to that with no extra weight needed. Plane is, however, heavy at 14lbs but should be no problem with the Moki 180 in the nose.
All I'm waiting for right now is a break in Old-Man-Winter. I have found the Moki is extremely difficult to start in freezing weather and have yet to get more than 20ozs of fuel into it yet on the bench. My last attempt to start it was hair-raizing. It took almost a half-hour to start but it started backwards. Before I could get around to the rear of the prop area and shut down the throttle it had already thrown the prop and washer. Even very sloppy rich that engine had to have been going in excess of 10,000 rpm with no load on it. I checked the piston, ring, and liner and there appears to have been no damage from it.

Thanks Jim,
I'm sure your's looks great too. I really like the Matt Chapman scheme. This one started out as the all-white version. I picked it up locally.
Hope you get your engine starightened out.

midmadn you made the right choice in letting someone else fly her in, the problem nowdays is big arfs are more available and afordably than ever and alot of people are stuffing them in because of lack of experience. I would even recomend you get a stick or something before making a daily flier with the cap.
good luck

I wish I could say that I will follow it but I'm not one to learn a lesson that easily.

Thanks. I actually wish I had gone lighter/brighter like yours. It's not really easy to see.
