well dd is alot heavier so you have to move everthing else forword so you can get ceter gravity.....I went to dd for about a week...I had nothing but bad luck with it but many peeps have great success with it. I actually have 3 dd motors and a bunch of blades. I put 2 motors on...one on ech heli I have...and decided I couldnt stand it...alot of the reason was I had a stock jabo board and thats non-adjustable. So I took both of... now I buy lots of motors and blades. Let me know what you end up doin. Mabey we could do a trade or something for these motors and props I got

I already have a DD tail system on my Aerohawk and I also have a lot of trouble. I just wanted to know if others have success with it...

I would also appreciate advice on this. Just in the process of upgrading to seperates with CSM HH gyro - will be looking into best option for tail motor next.

I have just installed a direct drive tail on my aerohawk and it works better than anything else ive tried. I can spin against the rotor torque faster than i can spin the other way. I have used the high torque motor with a gws blade works great and is lighter than the stock. As you can get rid of the big prop gear axle and bearings that used to hang out the back. If you are using the gws blade make sure you stcik it on the right way round this has a big effect.

Sounds good. How long do the DD motors last? which high torque motor are you using?. Does it need a high freq. ESC?. (Just changing my tail ESC to a ICS-100).

I think the dual motor setup is better and lighter, it also uses less amps. The motors last longer too because they are both doing less work, but when the power is needed like in a quick climb the response is there

This also looks good but has anyone got this working well with a 2 cell li-po?, I mean in terms having enough weight in the battery to balance C0fG.

An extra motor and mount on the tail seems EXTREMELY heavy to me. With DD motor, although motor is heavier, you get to lose the tail gear assembly as compensation ?.

you can move the battery forward(you have to with the dd motor antway) or like me you can get a higher mah battery which will be heavier.

In any case if youre using a heading hold gyro you should have much less of a problem with tail response anyway.

I would guess the twin motor setup would be way heavier than my setup as my tail is lighter than the stock setup. One of the guys at the club is going to try a dual tail motor next week im keen to see it fly.

I should have said high authrioty tail motor as sold at helihobby ie it is the long slim motor. .

I tried this motor with the stock gear box and it was not that flash I had to move the batt way forward to balance the tail and the thing was hard to fly and slow to react due to the extra weight further out from the c of g i guess. By having a lite tail you can move the batt closer to the c of g and thus quicken up the response time.

The extra motor and the mount weigh a total of 6 g. I use johnsons motors which have a lower voltage rating and therefore should be fine with 2s lipo.
