Default Finishing a HOB .40 P-51

If you have ever built a House of Balsa kit you know they are famous for using a molded plastic top for the fuselage. My problem is how to finish the plane. Everything is sheeted except the plastic upper fuselage. I would like to get a nice finish that also hides the fact that there are two different materials being used. I considered dope and silk span for the sheeted areas and then painting the entire plane. I'm not sure of the best way to get the smoothest finish on the silk span or if this is even the way to go. Any ideas?
