Mousse Can pipe needle settings
I've been trying to get the TT 46PRO on my new Goldberg Extreme 540 Edge to run consistently good with a mousse can pipe. I'm having a hard time getting a good high speed needle setting with it. It seems I have to set it extremely rich (about 3 1/2 turns out) to get it to run well (a little on the rich side but far from 4 cycling). The needle seems to be real touchy and the motor has flamed out several times.
I had this pipe on an OS 40LA for quite a while and, if I recall correctly, that engine went from a docile and utterly dependable motor to a fire breathing finicky little monster. I was eventually able to find a fairly reliable needle setting for it but fuel consumption was doubled and I was always wondering if it was going to flame out at the wrong moment. Still, the power increase I got with it made me decide to put it on the Edge.
Anyway, does this finicky thang sound familiar to anyone who has some experience with MCP's ? I'm about to put the stock muffler on the motor if I can't get through this flame out stuff. I'm also wondering if running a hotter plug might help since the motor seems to be using so much more fuel.
Thanks,
Big Mike

RE: Mousse Can pipe needle settings
I am running 3 TT 46 Pro on moosecan. All are dependable as the sunrise.
moosecans make yours carbs a little finicky but once you get them set they are good to go..atleast on my .32-46's. I have a .91 that I can't get to work worth dang, but thats another story.
I ran 15nitro/16oil fuel on one of them for going on almost 3 hard years. This year i swapped over to 10/20 to try and keep the heat down from hovering so much.
on my .46's i run a 6 1/2"L x 1.75" can that has a stinger that is 5/16" O.D.(outside diameter) thats approx 2 or 2 1/2" long. My inlet pipe is 3/4" long. It was cut off from the back of header, and JB welded into the moosecan. otherwise the header is uncut.

RE: Mousse Can pipe needle settings
I have a 9/32" ID stinger on my MCP so I don't think it's a pressure problem. I'm thinking it's really more of a carb problem. The engine does another weird thing I forgot to mention. The engine won't shut off even when the throttle is completely closed. It'll just idle happily along at about 2100 rpm indefinitely. Actually, it won't even shut off if I completely cover the inlet with my finger while it's idling. After about 15-20 seconds of choking the engine like this it'll usually quit.
I've removed the carb, cleaned it out and replaced it being careful to make sure it sits tightly on its O ring and that the needle valve body is tight also. I'm thinking it's an air leak somewhere. I'd send the motor back to Tower Hobbies but I've had it for over a year even though it has been run until a couple weeks ago. Maybe I'll call them anyway. From what I've read here MCP's shouldn't be causing these kinds of problems.
Thanks for your replies.

If the motor wont cut off by placing your finger over the carb then you have an air leak somwhere..

i have he same problem with my tt46 i think it is the front bearing and the carb barrel that is leaking, i've RTVed everything else, but even with that kind of leak my tt46 runs good at any rpm, what happened to the stock tower muffler, they are just as good as most mcp's.
Ok, 9/32 is a good size, where is your pressure tap?

I was just contemplating trying to make one for my 46fx. Are they just a hassle? Im starting to lean towards spending 13 bucks for a tower muffler.
