Default FIXED!! Shogun Tail Gear Stripping no more!

So, I buy a shogun with no heli experience... maybe a little... I had a weeks time on an aerohawk. What do I get? Huge tail rotor problems. I went through 3 plastic gears and a steel gear. They all stripped before the poor heli could get off the ground. So, I look around and see that a lot of people have this prob. Could go belt drive but, thats way to complicated looking for me. Determined, I ordered 5 tail gear output shafts with the gears on them. It only took 2 of the new ones to figure out the prob. It was the bearings that the tail gear rides on!!!! The poor gear was killing itself trying to spin on the crappy stock bearings!!! Luckily, I ordered the bearing upgrade kit from helihobby.com. Put in the new 2x5x2.5 bearings and whoa!!! The headspeed has come up 20% maybe 30%!!![X(] The 3 cell kokam 1500 didnt even get remotely warm in a hover that lasted 3 minutes!!![X(] Before, it would get blazingly hot just spinning up in the garage!! I think this is it folks. I hovered it in my garage for 2 charges and the tail gear looks good as new!!! Not even one wear mark!!! I think this it. I think I have the prob solved!!! So, anybody else wanna try it? Dont waste $30.00 on a steel gear. Buy the upgraded bearing kit!!! Its the best 14.00 upgrade you can have on your shogun, zoom, or dolphin!

Are you sure, the tail rotor spins fairly freely when the plastic gear is not meshing with the tail shaft gear... Is this the bearing you are talking about ?

The tail output gear shaft. Not the shaft that comes from the motor. I flew it again today had nice forward flight for about 10 mins. I even tipped it over and the tail rotor scraped on the concrete a little. Still worked fine with no stripping!

even if you have perfect bearings, when the tail hits the ground it will always strip because the stock plastic is so weak, a crash would have nothing to do with the bearings. are you actaully using stock gears?

Yes, I am using the stock gears. With the old bearings, ie "stock" The pinion actually stripped a steel gear!!!
