Need help buying a car...
Thank you in advance to anyone that might be able to help me.
Anyway, I want to buy my husband a RC car kit for Christmas. I know absolutely NOTHING about them. All I know is that he wants one that is nitro powered and on road. He also wants to build it himself. I have been looking around on the internet and can't tell what is what. He has experience with the cars so I am not worried about anything being too advanced. If someone could give me some suggestions, it would be GREATLY appreciated, you would make one man VERY happy. Thanks.

RE: Need help buying a car...
Look at this link--stay away from cars with RTR (ready to run) they are already put together
[link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0095p?FVPROFIL=++&FVSEARCH=nitro+car+kits&FVPRO FIL=++]nitro car kits[/link]
If you had any idea of what brand he is interested in that would help, there are so many different ones.(Kyosho,Associated,Ofna,Mugen,Serpent,HPI,Tra xxas, just to name a few)

RE: Need help buying a car...
does he want to take the car to any sort of competition?
quite a difference between an el cheapo nitro, a decent parkinglot racer and a serious competition car.
many makes to choose from. and different sizes (scales; 1/5, 1/8, 1/10 235mmm, 1/10th 200mm. the lather being the most popular). Look for the most make used in your area. Online stores are ok, but if it takes you a week to get an important part, you are out of the race. If the local shop has the part...
Ask in a local shop they should be willing to advise anytime
I have a personal preference for Serpent cars, but again that is down to availibility in your area
What are you willing to spend. (you could buy him just the car, and let buy an engine himself... just a thought)

RE: Need help buying a car...
ahh geeeez, theres so many out there! lol
Whats your price range your willing to spend?
The team aasociated kits ive seen require an engine, but i think he would want it all ready to build. Infact lloking around a lot of kits do require an engine, but touring cars isnt soo much my league anymore Whats his experience with rc cars? No use getting something poor if its all going to be the same to him. Either way the price range your looking at is huge, varries from around 250-500 and even more for the very best[X(]

RE: Need help buying a car...
If the mention Team Associated and he has experience with cars, I know he's going to like the FT NTC3. This car has all the upgrades over the reg kit. I brought the following two months back and love this car. As you mention you wanted a kit car which this is. It requires an engine, radio, tires (I use Foam Tires), an 200mm body and batteries for the radio. There are other things you need but if he has a nitro now he may have these items already: Glow plug starter, fuel and maybe a starter box.

Body

Engine (Non Pull Start - requires starter box) All racing/good setup cars do not use pull start, better CG. Engine is mounted lower in the car.

Starter Box

Radio

Battery-(I brought it in my LHS.) The connector may require a little trimming to fit the JR radio receiver. Just make should you get the 5 cell (6volt receiver pack). You will also need a charger for these batteries.

You can just use reg (4) AA batteries (6 volts) in the receiver pack to start with and let him upgrade as needed.
With tires I recommend you going to the local track or store and ask what other people as using, because all tracks conditions are different.
BTW, Tower Hobbies now has $20 off order over $150.

I purchased my car and (motor & starter box) separately to add to my discount. I joined the Tower Hobby Super Saver Club to save on shipping. I know I will be making purchase in the future.

You have to do the math/place order-check out to see about shipping and or taxes.
Good luck!
What a lovely wife you are.
