Default Can you use a pilot shaft motor in a FT RC10GT?

Hey Guys,
I was wondering if I can get a high end motor with a pilot shaft for my GT. I know that you will have to cut the shaft on whatever motor I get unless it comes from the factory with a short shaft. I guess I am just wondering if I can get a motor with a pilot shaft and cut the shaft to size or if I have to get a threaded crank cut it. I have had guys at my LHS say I can do it either way. I am kind of iffy when it comes to a standard crank because it is completely threaded. My OS is only threaded on the end. It came short from the factory. Yall's opinions and tips are much appreciated!

Thanks

If you want an engine with a pilot shaft you will have to do some research before you buy it. First you need to check to see if it has the same size thread on the crank and then check the diameter and length of the smooth portion next to the crank case.

BTW- a standard crank isn't really completely threaded. It just has a longer threaded part than your O.S. does.

Get a standard crank and cut it short for the RC10GT, or find an engine with the correct crank. The GT is not designed for a pilot shaft engine. Get the right engine the first time, and don't let the LHS talk you into a bad deal.
