Twin Engine Servos
Hi! I'm in the process of rebuilding a Byron Baron 58. The engine pods had 1 throttle servo in each pod connected to a y harness which seems to work OK so far. As I am rebuilding the entire plane I am replacing all the servos. My question is does anyone have any experience with Expert servos. That was what the throttle servos were and I located replacements at a decent price as they are micro servos but have no knowledge of the brand and the reliability.
Thanks

RE: Twin Engine Servos
I have two "Expert" branded servos I got included in a batch of used stuff, mine are standard size, and appear to be relabeled FMA or Cirrus servos. While this wont necessarily hold on the micros, all the parts interchange on the ones I have between the three brands.

RE: Twin Engine Servos
I would be cautious of the micro servos when they are mounted close to the motor as a throttle servo. The problem is not power or gear train reliability but rather the durability of either the motor, circuit board or some component on the circuit board. I have at least 6 failed units comprising 3 brand names here in the junk box. Most failed in less than two hours of motor run time while one failed within a minute of firing up the engine. These were all on glow engines and all on fourstrokes. All of the aircraft in question are still being flown but now have standard servos working the throttles.
I know that I am not the only one having this problem when trying to use micros on throttles. I watched two in a row fail at Bomber Field this year before they could get all the engines running and adjusted.
