Looking for tips and hints for the Morris hobbies SuDoKhoi. I'm building one now. I went with the pull-pull setup for elevator and rudder. I put tubes in the fuse for the wires. I've got a MVVS .40 with a mini tuned pipe for it... I'd appreciate any feedback.

Well mine was the ARF version so i did not build it, but it flew and still flys great, you will have a bunch of fun with this bird. I learned to hover with the Su-Do-koi. Best hovering plane in the land. Rock steady and a blast to do the 3D stuff. I started with the MVVS .40 and it was a great running engine, but i
like the sound of a 4 stroke engine. I ended up with a Saito .80 The hovering is even easyer with this engine. Go wacky on your controll throws but put in about 20% expo to take the bite out. Flaperons are a must, Hovers better with em also.

I am currently hoverning without flaperons and it hovers good but at an angle. Have you hovered with and without them? whats the differance in hovering ability? give me some stuff you have found out about that. I will try it sunday so I hope to hear back soon. OH yeah GREAT PLANE!!!

I put my flaperons on a switch so i could activate and deactivate them. I would say the diferance is more controll in the hover at a virtical angle with more stability. It dosn't move so much about the horizontal axis while in the hover. Try it youl like it. Also makes for slower landings ( zero zero)

Hi guys.
I use Flapperons on my Top Cap for Harriers and Elevators. not so much for hovering. I also have them on a switch so I dont have to use them all the time.

My Top Cap has a Saito .72 and its AWESOME!

I am considering putting a Saito 72 on a 40 size profile fun fly. What size tank are you using and what is your flight duration? What prop & RPM. Any other comments?

azblue you fly the top cap or a sudukhoi? I have a fun design and it doesnt hover well yet. but the sudukhoi does great! I also have a mvvs .40 that i have on the fun design that runs BAD! it is no where near good enough to hover with. I like The planes alot. Morris is a good company before it was sold. Anyone selling any morris planes on here? I would like to get some more.

I fly the Su-Do-Koi...I have not flown a Fun Design or Top Cat but a few guys at the feild fly the Top Cat and it does great. Maybe even more manuverable than my Su-Do. Word has it the Knife is the best hovering of all the Morris kits. But again i have not flown anything other than a Su-Do. The guy at my feild had a Knife and said he was touching the tail on the ground in hovers. I am to the point were i can hover rock steady about eye level with the Su-Do-koi but i don't have the nads to go any lower yet..A big advantage of having a 2 stroke over a 4 stroke, is the two turns a smaller prop at higher RPM so you have less torque. If anyone does put a 4 stroke on a profile plane and want's to do the best hovers...go with a big prop with little pitch. I run a 13/5 on my Saito 80 and noticed a big differance between the 13/5 and the 13/6. As far as RPM goes im not sure but the engine is rated somwere around 11,000 RPM, i probably am close to that. My experiance is give those MVVS .40's a chance to break in very well. Mine was finiky for a while, but smoothed right out after about 30 minuts of break in and about 10 flights. Someone said they are looking to get more Morris kits...They still sell them don't they?? I'm starting to cover it now... Using some neon colors... Man is that stuff hard to work with.... It's thicker that that the opaque stuff and I bet it's heavier.... Oh well... I'm going to give it a whirl.. I've got half the wing coverd...

I am using a 13x6 master airscrew prop on my Saito .72. I have a 8 oz tank in the wing and it flies for about 12 mins. I am rarely above half throttle though.

Morris Hobbies was originally in Louisville KY. Now they are in Houston TX. And have been for a few years now. All kits are still available.

Someone above said that a 2 cycle is better for hovering because they swing a smaller prop and in-turn have less torque. I agree with that statement but, for these types of planes lower rpm and more torque really makes the plane come alive. I had a webra 50 in My Top Cap, a Rossi .45 in my Fun-Design and Su-Do-khoi. Then I had the chance to fly a Morris Knife with a YS 63. No comparison! With a 4 cycle you are able to 1- run a larger prop at a slower rpm. 2- blow more air over the tail because of the larger prop and 3- you have more power throughout the whole throttle range. 2 cycles need to be at higher RPM to produce the power needed for hovering, 3D type flying.
I am not saying that a 2 cycle will not fly these planes well. They will. But, if you looking for 3D / hoverbatics I think the 4 cycles are the way to go. Nothing like holding a hover at 1/4 throttle.

i AGREE, THE 4 STROKE DOES FLY IT BETTER OVERALL.
i ALSO THINK THEY HAVE A HIGHER DEGREE OF RELIABILITY, BUT THAT IM SURE IS UP FOR DEBATE

I might just have to try one... I never knew they were sooo light... 16 oz is 1 oz lighter that the MVVS .40 I'm planing to put in it... wow... it's just the $200 price tag that's got me a little frightened.... I guess I can sell some stuff off...

If you can, go for the Saito...Ya it's 200 bucks but hey ..it's a Saito. Set it and forget it. One of , if not the best 4 stroke engines out there. One more thing i thought of, i think they give you an option to put the fuel tank in the wing or up front by the engine. I have mine up front. I like it because i can land and see how much fuel is left. Not a big thing, but handy.

Andy - how did you mount your tank?? I was thinking of mounting it up front instead of in the wing....

I put up with the hassle of mounting the tank into the wing so I wouldnt have any disturbed air hitting the tail.

I mounted it up front with rubber bands. Just a couple of eye hooks and there you have it. Easer to fuel up as well, just stop fueling when you see it's getting full. No more fuel out the vent hose anymore.
