RE: Successful Comp Arf Yak flight
First off...Paul we gonna talk[sm=devious.gif] and uh...thanks for stealing my thunder! I was gonna post a few pics and a little bit of what went on this weekend with it tonight, but as Paul said we maidened my Comp-Arf 3.3M Yak and experienced some mysterious engine anamaly's......4 dead stick landings. Turned out to be a bad ignition on/off switch (it was a brand new heavy duty Futaba.....I had it so figured why not) which would short out under certain conditions. Once we sorted the switch problem out we were able to get in one trouble free flight on Sunday afternoon before it got dark (I really hate day light savings!)and this thing sure looks to be a winner! Still gotta play with the wing incidence a bit a come a touch farther forward on the CG but overall this thing is gonna be a great plane! Almost zero coupling and feels like a kite! So light on the sticks, just incredible for what amounts to be a 45lb (I'm guessing at the weight) plane. Very well behaved and it seems like it really is gonna live up to the hype!
Here is the rundown:
Composite-Arf 3.3M Yak
DA 150 w/SWB modular stand offs
KS 1090 tuned pipes w/12" headers
Mezchlik 5" Spinner
Mezchlik 32x10 prop
Dubro 50oz tank w/SWB machined aluminum stopper
Dubro 5 1/2" lite wheels
Duralite Power Box 40/24 SC12 ........absolutely love this thing! (built in regulators, failsafe switches, and 3 matchboxes)
3 Duralite 4000mah lithium Ion packs (2 for the powerbox and 1 on the ignition)
1 Duralte 5.1v Regulator (ignition)
2 Smart-Fly Equalizers for the elevators (still need them because ea Elevator has 2 servos)
Ailerons-6 JR 8611's w/SWB arms (Considered Hitecs but wanted the plane to last more than 5 flights)
Elevators-4 JR 8611's w/swb arms
Rudder-3 JR 8611's w/stock included hardware
Throttle-1 Futaba 9205
2 Futaba 149DP Receivers
RC Blimp tail wheel
All hardware is stock except what is mentioned above
I used 20gauge wire from servo city to make all the extentions (elevators) and aileron harness (much easier than plugging in 6 servos every time I put the wings on.
I think this bout covers it for now...I hope !

Yea Mark and Paul are trying to be funny boys but what they don't realize is that the more comments on that hitec ***** we get the less stick time they get [X(].

Yikes!
Nice flying plane that Yak. Gotta hand it to Albert for the most insane maiden takeoff of a 40% plane. On the maiden the gear breaks ground and Albert rolls it right to knife edge for point rolls up into the wild blue yonder. Needless to say paul's blood pressure had to ratchet up a few notches
That is one big plane. The headshot of paul's melon in the canopy is actually real. No photoshop work. The canopy is that big.

I'll get some stick time soon enough. FOr now Paul should be getting his money's worth on this baby. The day we took it out there was a bad switch as paul pointed out above so the flights were short. Albert did some really nice dead sticks on this plane.

Congratulations Paul! That is a beautiful plane. I wish you both very long lives. I'd love the 2.6 yak sometime. Is that 150 broke in or new? How do you like the power? Have you or John though about a dummy radial? I know if might cut down on cooling but if it there was some baffling it might work fine. That is the only thing on the yaks I might modify. Awesomeplane!!!!!

RE: Successful Comp Arf Yak flight
Thanks Joe. The engine is new and has very little time on it so I have not been inclined to really push it yet but initial impressions are favorable. The vertical seems to be good..not as good as it is on a 40lbs plane, but pretty good. It flies sooooo light on the sticks and is very true as far as coupling goes.
