Default Question...

Hi guys....I'm building an exhaust for my Maxx out of copper pipe. I will have to solder it together, my question is, will regular solder that is normally used to solder copper pipe stay together under the heat, or will I have to silver solder it to make it stay?...Anybody know?.....Coop

Actually, I saw a system that looked like this on E-Bay, just seeing if I can copy it. Not sure if it will perform, will have to play around with the chamber size and maybe the restriction ...should sound cool though. Here's a pic of the outlets......Coop

Default Question...

coop you could make the expansion chamber out of carbon fiber cloth and hi temp epoxy
10 years and 30 pounds ago i race superbikes and one of the best exaust systems out there was made entirely of carbon fiber

you could look at some tuned pipes that you like then sand a piece of foam to the shape you want then laminate with CF and high temp epoxy .when finished scrape out all the foam guys on the scratch building forum could explain working with composits very well

Default Question...

I'm using the 3/4" tee for the expansion chamber, and I can vary the volume of it by the length of the spacer I put in before I cap it off. My only other issue may be with having enough back-pressure to run the engine....Coop

Should work OK. Normal soldering iron operates at like 700 degrees and your exhaust won't be much higher than like 400 at the output chamber I'm guessing.

It looks like a great project. You also might use PC7 (epoxy) to join the parts instead of solder. Keep in mind that you should make sure the pipes are lower than the exhaust port so the oil will be able to drain out and not accumulate inside any chambers.

Well, I got it soldered up and running. I'm going to have to play around with the pressure tap location, that seems to be the biggest problem right now, not quite enough back pressure to get a consistent run. It is quite loud, and midrange is stronger than with the stock pipe.....Coop

COOP,

Looks cool..you have to go for the flame idea! That would rock...especially if you could get it on video!

What about the weight factor?

Coop,
Too get pressure in the chamber.
Take that long piece of 1/2 that comes out of the "T" on top
Cut it in half and pinch one end down so you have about a 1/4" opening. that will act kinda like a stinger.
Then just use a coupler to rejoin the pipes.
This should give you pressure and quiet the pipe as well

If you look at the ones the guy on ebay is making. he reduces the final exit down to 1/4" pipe I think
That would give you pressure as well

Good luck
