Dynaflite Super Decathlon Kit
Just received my Dynaflite Super Decathlon Kit and expect to start it in a couple weeks. Do you have any pointers about this kit? Would a zenoah G 26 be enough engine to fly this model in a scale manner?

I believe the G-26 would be ok, but for almost the same price the G-38 would be wonderful. That's what I plan on putting in mine when I start building soon.

Hello lt-40 flier: You need to go view these two threads: My brother just finished his Decathlon. He put a Brison in it.
I feel that the G-26 will be too small, That is what I am oputting in my 1/4 scale giles 202. It is smaller than the Decathlon.
There is a guy name Fuzz in the Decathlon thread that my brother said was a real help to him and had good input on this particular plane.

Lt-40,
The G-26 may be enough, but it would take very hard work. You would need to spend significant time reducing airframe weight, mostly because it will likely come out VERY tail heavy with the small G-26 on the nose. I agree with the comment above that the G-38 might be a better choice. Could be no weight penalty at all with a nice power bonus. It still won't have vertical capability, but the full scale doesn't either. I fly mine with a Quadra 42 and some 6-8 ozs of nose lead. Flies very well.
There are a couple of threads about that have covered construction points on the kit, search them out. By-and-large it is straightforward. Quite a bit of work, without being difficult or challenging. Lots of carving (wing tips and leading edges), which is great therapy.
Have fun and if you run into any difficulties don't hesitate to speak up.

RE: Dynaflite Super Decathlon Kit
Hi I built that same kit it came out about 18 lbs. I used a fuji 50 in mine, it flew very well with it i used it to tow gliders it took up 15 ft span scale glider with authority. i recommend replacing the cardboard wing tube with a phenolic tube there only a couple bucks and it will fit right in the holes in the ribs. other wise you will have to sand them out a bit. mine balenced with the fuji with no extra weight. i really liked the way it flew but my aileron servo mount broke loose and it snapped into the ground after a touch and go. It was my design not the kit design. just a bad glue joint. other than that it's just a straight forward kit just big. have fun with it but don't under power it. skyflyer

I was looking on the Zenoah site the other night and it looks like there is to extra cost to go to the G38. I think I'll take all your advice an go for the larger power plant. I'm not looking for unlimited anything just a nice flying plane.

lt-40,
PM me with your email address. I have a number of shots I can send you. I have a very good scheme of yellow over black with red sun burst. I saw the full scale version at Oshkosh in '01. Nice looking result and VERY visible in flight.

What kind of hinges are you guys using on this bird? Will CA hinges be strong enough or should I use Robart Hinge points? Thanks for all the pointers.

Stans for the cowl,H9 for the pants. If you are going to do aerobatics I would suggest increasing your ailerons two bay's /side, and make sure the wing struts are functional. The plane has great knife edge habits and will do any maneuver you can imagine.
