Default Civilian "Executive" type twins

Looking for plans or a kit of a nice Baron, Twin Commanche, or similar that would be in the range of 80-90" span. Anyone have any ideas, or info. The only one I have seen that fits is the RCM plans for a Piper Seneca II. I have not seen the plans yet, but it seems interesting.

Terry,

I also like the planes you list. I have a Jack Stafford twin Comanche that I bought a while ago, nice kit, not finished yet. You can't buy them new anymore, but there are 2 on Ebay right now. I also have a byron kit for the Baron that I bought on Ebay. These are both in the 70" range. I also had the Seneca plans and sold them as i didn't like the way the fuselage was framed up. They were scale plans. I have seen plans for a twin Comanche (72") at the model airplane news website, but this was an older set of plans. There also is a kit on Ebay for a Shrike Commander twin. There has been a Cessna 310 kit on Ebay which is larger scale. Check Ebay. I believe those are all that are available.

Hope this helps,
Keith

Look in RCM magazine and you will see an ad for a hobby shop that carries the Cessna 310 ( old Royal KIT).

Default Byron Baron

I have 2 of the Byron Baron's, and 2 of the real one's!

The byron B-58 are powered by os & supertigre 40-46's and fly very nice with 3 blade props. They also fly scale which means they won't go straight up either, but then neiter does my real one.

Any way this was my first R/C twin and I have around 20 flights on one, and the other is being painted to match my real one.

Pic's are at http://www.rnlinc.com/rc/rc.htm

Let me know knkow if you have any questions.

Default Twin......

Terry.....How about taking the Ziroli Beech D-18 plans and shrinking them down to 90" from 114".....they have a number of "Dee Howard" (and a place in Indiana) that did the "nose gear " conversion modification ...they were used quite alot as corporate planes.......Being down in So. Fla. there still are several of the 3- gear D-18's flying down here ....one just up the street at North Perry Airport..........D-18 is a pretty plane in flight........I would like to do one myself.........Bill......

A guy is converting his TF Bonanza to a Twin Baron. Only problem if you want to go that way is the TF Bonanza is hard to find.

That's true up until about 3 months ago. Marutaka stopped producing kits (ARFs killed them, IMHO) and Hobby Barn is sold out with no more coming. Only place to find Royal/Mautaka kits now are on auction sites and maybe some hobby shops that still have a few on the shelf. People were finding some at Sheldon's but they may be sold out as well.

I scored two Bridi Commanders on Ebay. But they had the original wings. The original wing design was too hot. There is a company in CA that has the templates to cut new cores with a broader tip with washout. These are great looking birds. But I think the span is 78 in.

The Staffords are a good option, but again , I think they are smaller than your specs.

One of the plan guys, Bob Holdman or something like that, has a great looking C421 golden eagle. But it might be just a bit too large.

One of the guys here on RCU was working on a King Air kit a few years ago. Very nice kit, the cross sections appeared dead on. I think a search would find it easily, but it was large.

And I do see the Royal C310's on Ebay from time to time. They are a great looking airplane. I have only seen one in person and it wasn't covered. But it was fantastic. The tip tanks and the tail feathers added about as much character to an airplane as you could ever hope for.

And I also see the Byron BE58 or 55 on Ebay now and then. There were a few on EBAY a couple of years ago, but the bidding got real serious.

I am really suprised that we haven't seen an Aerostar. That would be the one for certain. And it would make a great scratch project. Very tappered mid-wing. The problem with the Aerostar is the gear. Scale retracts would be a booger. You could cheat and just have the gear retract into the wing.

Wendell Hostetler:

Cessna 310 - http://www.aero-sports.com/whplans/cessna310r.html
Cessna 421 - http://www.aero-sports.com/whplans/cessna421c.html

Wendel will size his plans to any size you want. the only drawback to that is the makers of the cowls and canopies and such for his designs won't have stuff available if you get a smaller/larger size. You would have to make your own.

I have the 110" Hostetler 310R plans, and they are very nice. I'm looking forward to starting the build. The outline is fairly accurate, though the cowls are a little tight for fitting a gas engine.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for your interest, but I think I´ll keep my Commander. At least for the coming flying season.
I´m thinking about a conversion to electric power, although I´m not sure I can afford it
In case I change my mind, I´ll let you know

Regards,
Leo

I ran across a german web site, offering Cessna 310 and Partenavia P-68 giant scale kits:
http://www.modellbau-kuhlmann.de/seite2.htm
Do not know if they accept international orders. Does anyone read german?

1/4,5-scale Aerostar plans:

Kingwoodbarney.
Could you please provide more info on the company in CA. who cuts new wings for the Bridi Aero Commander kit? I have one unstarted kit and a partially started one. On the partially started one, the previous builder did a very poor job on the wing and I would like to replace it.

thanks
Fred
