depends what you want from a car. some people enjoy making a car more than driving them so the kit would give them more entertainment. some people just want a car to thrash around straight away so rtr would be better.

it all depends on what you mean by "more"

A kit lets you know your rc much more than a rtr. They're pretty much the same in the end.

A electric rtr would be the ideal beginners rc, while a nitro kit would be more for someone who has experience.

RTR is much better because you dont have to worry about putting it together and breakin it.

I prefer both. RTR because you dont have to wait to drive it (i hate anticipation). and i also like kits because i know exactly how the car works, and i know it inside out.

I would never have bought a rtr if i could have have put a complete kit together in the same price range. Bang for the buck goes to RTR, no contest.

I prefer a kit though.

Buying a kit will be a bit more but you can put in higher quality parts.

That's not a simple question to answer directly. Much of what it comes down to is the user, that's you. Now if I say for $360 you can get a XXX-NT RTR 2 that comes with all but about $40 worth of parts that you will need. That's a pretty good deal. I don't shop RTR's so if my prices are off don't crawl up on me. I witnessed the problem with this first hand last Wednesday at the first race of the season. Two guys showed up with the mentioned vehicles, I must say they both ran great. They could tune an engine as good as anyone. The problem was the flywheel kept loosening up on one of the guys' trucks. Had he built it himself he would have instantly recognized the problem, which I did when I looked at it for him. It is this type of problem many new comers to the hobby have. They get deep investments going in equipment and they really don't know exactly how it works. Then when there is a problem they have to run back to the hobby shop where it can be trouble shooted for $30 an hour if you bought it there, or its $60 an hour.

Some people use the RTR as an excuse that they don't have time to build a kit. Well, I say, if you don't have time to build a kit, then you don't have the time to maintain any r/c car. Especially if it means having a hobby shop work on it for you while you wait. For two evenings time investment you will never have to go back to the hobby shop except for more batteries or fuel because you will have been out driving.

Get a kit, some decent equipment to go with it. You don't have to go all out, have the most expensive motor, most expensive radio. Just get something good and the right equipment to support it. Make fewer trips to the hobby shop and be more self sufficient.

with most kits you have to get radio gear and you will want to get a good fm radio as they are the best but are expensive.
