Default More 79" Yak Pictures

Got my giant Yak-54 finished today. Now waiting on the wind to settle down.

Took the parts out of my old giant Edge 540.
I got destroyed in a midair three weeks ago. It died with honor. RIP. [sm=pirate.gif]
(After about 40 gallons (500+ flights) of glow fuel through the Moki, I got my money's worth)

My new ride has the MVVS 215 with pipe, which I had just finished breaking in on the Edge.
(This is the way to go on these big profiles, unless you like cleaning a ton of goo every time out)
Be weary of mechanical interference between the right aileron and pipe with this setup.

HS-925 servos on ailerons and elevators, HS-945 on the rudder.
Tank is on the CG, below the right wing. (A tight fit down there)
All up weight is 13.5lb. Here are some pics.

White Ultracote on wing bottoms, with a black stripe over the servo bays.
(I learned a few planes ago that transparent wings are unhelpful to top/botton orientation)

Control surfaces in the tail are transparent all the way though.

Took it out today. Flies gooooood. Nice windy day airplane.

That's because you live in Ill. I used to live in Iowa. Same problem there. The dumb farmers cut down every tree there is to make it farm land. Then the wind blows to high heaven. Down here in Southern Mo. the wind isn't 1/4 as bad as Iowa. We plant trees here instead of cut them down. eheheheheh

Hey Marty,
Looks great!! You didn't waste any time getting that together! I hope kit met with your approval and arrived intact. I'm just finishing the ARF Yak I got after selling you the kit. I can't see it readily in the pics, where did you mount your rx switch? I'm down to mounting the landing gear, engine, tank and switch. I haven't thought a good location being that it's all built already. I put it in the wing on my 65" but the battery was in the wing and it made it real convenient.

basmntdweller, no I didn't waste any time. It's good to be between jobs. [8D]

No problems with what you sent me.
A third of the wood in there was too heavy to go in any plane, and got tossed.
Most of the kits I have got from them were like this. (They need to get a new supplier IMO)
Not going to lose sleep over $10 worth of wood - This was my 5th kit from them, and not the last.

Since I have an ignition to worry about, the Rx battery is tucked into the back of the left wing.
The Rx switch is on the top left wing sheeting, using the Y-Connector trick.

Battery box in the nose is where I put the ignition battery. Switch is on the cover.

I'm going to end up with 6oz of lead in the tail to get it to balance the way I like.
So I may end up moving the Rx battery to the back of the fuselage.

A 16oz DuBro tank is a tight but workable fit below the left wing, if you have a pumped setup.
Otherwise, just mount it at the standard location right behind the motor.

The piped MVVS is an awesome combination for this plane.
