Default Mother or ALL NOOB Mistakes

Recent backyard bashing session... ran about a quarter of a tank through my revo before I realized the friggin airfilter had come off the carb of my os.18tm.

I wasn't running in dirt, just grass but the carb appears to have still sucked in some debris.

I'm pretty new to nitro - just sophisticated enough to do change out engines, gears, etc... never rebuilt an engine before and I hate to experiment with the os.

Any thought or opinions? Perhaps a good guide to taking an engine apart... or perhaps I should only take the carb apart... or is there some way to gauge the extent of the damage without dismantling...

Thanks,

Steve

well u would have noticed right away if something bad did get into your carb. And you were running in grass so probabaly nothiing went it. YOu should still take out the engine and wash it out, take the head off check the piston flush stuff out with water let it dry a little spray wd-40 in there. Always SECURE your filter!!

I just did my stock revo engine, new to nitro also followed a guide on traxxas web page was very easy. I would see if you can find one on a o.s. web page, if not check traxxas out. It really isnt bad if you are careful, getting the sleeve out can be a little tricky though.

After Run oil dude. Few drops in the glow plug hole and a few drops in the carb. Flushes all that crap out.

Just to be on the safe side take the cooling head and carb off and see if anything is there. Then spray motor spray or something like that in there and put after run oil in. Another just in case, if you turn the flywheel and fell ANY sort of grittyness stop immediately and open up the engine. I'm with you, I wouldn't want to take a chance with a $220 engine.

Man I'm fairly new to Nitro too, but I would bite the bullet and tear that engine apart and clean it out. Just for peace of mind. Get it apart where you can inspect the piston and sleeve for scratches etc. Clean everything with some carb cleaner lube all your bearings and put it back together..

My thought is...the difference between a noob and an ol' pro is "experience". So find yourself a good article about tearing apart an engine and jump in. Good opportunity to gain some experience !
