Default Funtana 40 on Floats

I finally got to mounting the floats onto my Funtana. Does take a little work.

I added 2 hardwood blocks at the wing bottom fairing, so I can screw the floats to the bottom of the wing.

It weighs 6.75 lb. with floats. It is 1 lb. heavier than the land version.

I'm guessing you made your own floats. Good for you! Are they sheeted foam, built-up, Or have I just failed to identify commercial floats...(They look a little like GeeBees, but the edges are sharp and the step apears not to be pointed. )

Actually, I bought these floats on eBay. It's a Unionvilel float kit, a balsa and ply build-up design. One of the two actually has a servo tray and pushrod inside for the water rudder at its rear. I didn't opt for a water rudder, because I am trying to save weight, and is not necessary with a Funtana, as its air rudder should be adequate to steer on water.

The landing gear are actually 2 pairs of profile gears, and as you can tell I attached them the "other" way: instead of having axle going into the gear, I screwed the gear flat directly onto the float.

I have flown the Funtana for 2 years, but haven't flown the Funtana with floats yet. I am planning to maiden it during the Skymaster's float fly this coming weekend.

I am not sure how well it will perform, as it weighs well over 6 lb. The engine is Saito 82 with APC 14x6, which can pull 9.5 lb. thrust. I guess it's just barely enough for 3D.
