I am about 1/2 way done with it. Yes you have to "split" it, but you also have to open up the exit and move the motor mount a little forward.

I have not run it yet, maybe in the next week or 2.

I put a few pictures here:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=3254849

I have many more to come.

This turbine is a beast, plain and simple....a beast.

Matt,
thanks for the help. Why do you have that hump on the front of the bypass? What do you mean by open up exit?
Thanks man

Scotty,

I put one in an oly bypass and it requires the tailcone to be removed from the engine to install it inside the bypass. BV has a new bypass designed for it (P-180) and the P-200. I am not sure about the Pegy bypass, but my guess is it would be an extremely tight fit.

Hi Scott,

I see what you mean by hump, it is kind of an optical trick. Rest assured, internally the contours are the same as the peggy bypass with the extension on a Bandit. You need the extended molded "lip" on the front of the bypass (it goes over the light colored fiberglass extension), in order to be able to cut the slot to clear the starter and not destroy the integrity of the bypass (a lot of load goes through the extension and into the inlets). The slot goes all the way into the fiberglass bypass extension, that is how long the starter is.

As for opening up the back, this thing needs a huge pipe, with a 3.75 inch inlet! You have to cut an inch and a quarter or so off the back of the bypass in order to get the diameter big enough to mate to that pipe.

Regards,

Matt

You know, by putting these Big ***** engines in these smaller bypasses, the
EGT is going to drop, and along with that the thrust is going to drop..

Its hard to say how much but its something to check after you get it running..

If the EGT drop like over 80 deg C. It will need some work.

The first CAI razors EGT temp fell by like 100, hardly any thrust, this was fixed
with a tapered tail pipe.

Good thing they don't get hotter.. hahah

Matt,
You need some adult supervision. That is 10 pounds of engine in 5 pound bypass.

whoa let's not get ahead of ourselves, I give this install about a 50-50 chance of working. Not enough air getting around to the back of the motor to keep the pressures right in the bypass.

Also, the balance is a real b*tch, the motor sits maybe 2 inches aft of the normal position, and I got many ounces of balance weights on the elevators and rudders. I did mock it up once at it looks like it will balance. I am going to try this motor combo before I get much farther in case it is does't work.

I gotta start eating my weaties so that I will be able to pick it up.

Matt, can you expand on your comment about balancing the elevator and rudder. I wasn't aware this was necessary and how did you determine the balance point?

Most of the stuff I do is not necessary, it is just insurance against flutter, it is really the only way to (almost) completely eliminate the chance of flutter. At any reasonable speed, the Bandit is fine as is.

The balance point should be on the hinge line.

Can I assume that once you are confident that this baby will rock that there will be a reliable measuring device for the numbers you are clearly seeking?

Sure...when I hear the throttle pull back I'll know I hit 200 on the speed limitier.
