Whip antenna
How do you go about using a whip antenna? Some are base loaded and some are not? Just solder it to any length of antenna on the RX and not re-tune? Obviously I know nothing about this but I am getting a composite airplane and want to get the whip antenna.

RE: Whip antenna
the only one I have used is the revolution whip antenna you can get from horizon, comes with instructions. Cut antenna to 4" exactly, solder on the included tip/adapter. Then plug it in to the other end of the base antenna, pretty simple.

RE: Whip antenna
the whip part of the antenna is probably 10" or so, and runs flat on the bottom of the fuse, comes with a little mount, you could mount inside or outside of the fuse. I believe deans makes an angled one that you can run out the top or bottom of the fuse.

Base loaded whip, follow the instructions that come with the antenna as length of the wire will vary depending on the load.
Non-base loaded whip, total length of the antenna needs to be the same as before. If you cut off 20 inches, replace it with 20 inches of music wire.

RE: Whip antenna
I have used Base loaded antennas for years with no problems. They are very popular in Calif. I make my own using a 35 cent 1.5 microhenery inductor and six inches of wire. Antenna is then about 8" long and I lay it inside the fuselage just aft of the trailing edge of the wing.
