1/4-scale Giles 202 and O.S. 1.60 -- prop?
Anyone still have one of these in the air?
I'm guessing this has been covered in the past but the RCU search feature isn't working at all for me (I just reported the problem).
I finally got up the nerve to fly mine (it's been ready to go for almost two years). What a fun airplane! It wasn't NEARLY as scary as I thought it would be; not scary at all, really. A real bargain, too.
Anyway, I'm running the O.S. 1.60FX with large fuel tubing, no pump, and a Zinger 18x6-10 prop. The engine isn't fully broken in yet, but close (four tanks on the ground, four flights). I forgot to take a tach reading to see what I'm turning the prop at right now.
I was wondering if anyone had other prop choices they preferred. The Zinger I'm using seems fine, but I don't have anything to compare it to. I have a pair of Top Flight 18x6-10s but haven't drilled them yet. I doubt they'll be too much different than the Zinger.
Is there another prop I really should try?
Thanks for any info,

I had a 20 X 6-10 Zinger on my OS 300 FT and broke it one day. My buddy had a couple Menz Ultra 20-10's and said to try one. Man, what a difference. Like night and day in performance. I would suggest a Menz Ultra in your 18-6 size and see what you think.

I think you will find that changing to a Menz, BME, or other wood prop in that quality class will make a world of improvement in performance. It won't be just at the engine, the plane will also handle better in the`air. There will be some arguement on that last sentence, but when you change to the better prop your first flight will prove it right.

Thanks for your input. Menz props seem to be held in very high regard.
Are the higher-priced "Pro" series Zinger propellers considered to be decent props? I have access to those....

Unfortunately they are not. The standard class of Zingers, IMO, outperform the Pro class. Usually you have to go up one size in pitch with the pro to equal the standard Zinger.
If you are looking for performance, get away from the Zingers altogether. You may save a few bucks with them but you will never experience anywhere near the performance you could have been. Spring for a Menz just once and you won't look back!!!!!!
Don't misunderstand my statements to be a dislike for Zinger props. Far from it! Zinger produces a low priced line of propellers that will get anybody in the air, anytime, with good average performance. But are you just another average anybody?

I don't have any large hobby shops around and actually buy 99% of my stuff via web/mail order, mostly from Tower Hobbies. The two nearest hobby stores are each 25 miles away and stock very little flying supplies. To look at a Menz prop in real life, I'd probably have to drive 75 miles to Albany, NY.
I'll start looking for a mail-order supplier and give the premium props a try.
Thanks again for your opinion,
