1/8 scale 4WD nitro buggy
I want advice concerning which 1/8 scale 4WD nitro buggy to buy.
Can any give me pluses and minuses on any of the new kits out there.
I am debating on purchasing a Mugen Seiki MBX 4XR, but they are very expensive ... what are the alternatives?

any real good race worthy 1/8 is exspensive. But you get what you pay for. I prefer the mugen over the 7.5 but there the same on the track. one does this better and the other does that better. Its really personal taste. Besides there a ton you have to learn about 1/8 scale ( Diffs, shocks, brakes, etc... etc..)once you get your feet wet and do some racing than you can pick "THE ONE" but till than the mugen is awsome. good luck

I have an OFNA 9.5. It's better then the 7.5 imho. Cheaper, already comes with most the upgrades, more durable, did i mention cheaper? As far as design and materials the 9.5 is still better.
The only reason the 7.5 costs so much is because some guys name is on it. What if that guy was using a 9.5? Well, that same guy would probably still be winning.
I've had a 7.5...
I still have the 9.5...

1/8 Buggy????? There is a option
Now I am going to give you a name that you most likely have never heard of. SINYIH. Ok, now that I have told you the name let me tell you what I have found out about this car. It is strong, relieable, fast and is more fun than my 7.5. The reason it is more fun than my 7.5 is that when I bash the hell out of it I don't worry how much it will cost me to fix. I have yet to break a single part on it. I have review the cost of parts and their availability. A whole dif is 25 bucks ,gears and all. I have broken my 7.5 and the diff cost (if memory serves me correctly) $55.00. I do have a couple of problems with the car. First the belly is not drilled for counter sunk screws. And the brake linkage is a little difficult to work with. I have modified mine and would be happy to share this information. I built the buggy with futaba electronics and hi tec ultra torque servos (155 oz on steering and 70 on throttle). The steering was over kill but if the car is aganist a barrier the steering alone can slide the front end over. The same as the 7.5. Please don't get me wrong the 7.5 is great but the price differance is immense. I am buying 2 more Sinyih cars, the new AX-5 buggy and the rally car. I right now have the Topspeed buggy and the MT-5 monster truck. I have the 7.5 for sale now. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Which Buggy?
The mugen XR is a good choice, very well built and parts are pretty easy to get through mail order. The price for the mugen is very reasonable for the quality and you would probably be very happy with it but, if you plan to race and want the very best buggy out there the kanai 2 is the cadillac of 1/8 buggys. The 9.5 ofna is good, I wont say anything bad about it because I own one myself but it is not in the same league as the kyosho. Yuichi kanai is the world champion and knows what it takes to win, thats why he designs his own cars and why the k2 is the bad boy!!! If you buy any of the top end buggys youll be satisfied, you get what you pay for as the saying goes and it applys in rc as well so you really should get one that the people around your area run so your lhs. will have what you need when you need it. LHS's tend to keep parts in stock for what is most in demand so keep that in mind but you can get just about any part on-line now in about 3 days. Either one you get run it and run it hard.

in my experience racing, the Mugen and Kanai are the most reliable buggies .. I also had a Storm Pro and there are still some bugs that need to be worked out .. don't get me wrong it's a decent buggy, but the Mugen is hands down the most durable .. I'm thinking of getting out of 1/8 and have a Kanai II that I'm going to sell, with an RB WS7 engine, if you're interested...

Look At this stuff. No it is not the balls out $1000 kick with all the tricks but it is very good and strong. I do very well against the Mugens and Ofnas. I have their latest full blown AX-5 coming and will see. The AX-5 has all the complaints that I had with the Top Speed fixed and a few tricks that I did not think of. Like independent biasing of the brakes among others. If it delivers bang for the buck like the Top Speed pro I feel it will certainly be a top line contender. But for like $300 with a Force .21 motor you can buy a lot of track time and fuel. My feeling is that just because you spent $700 for a top brand car means you spent more, not necessarily more wisely.

I am sure no one has mentioned it because of the price, ($600), but the Kyosho MP 7.5 Kanai II is the best 1/8 buggy out there... If $$ is not an issue, throw in a RB Concepts C5 in ($450), and you have the absolutely fastest, tightest and most durable buggy there can be ! If the Kanai is too expensive, the MP 7.5 is still a car that will kick everyone eleses @$$ ...

The inferno class buggys are not very durable. They are the lightest though, but if you hit something your more then likly going to break something. The biggest complaint i had before i got rid of my 7.5 was the wing mount. Very very fragile.

I will strongly dissagree here ... i put all of my infernos through hell !! ( hee hee ) and all hold up well, the Kanai has a metal wing mount which is even better .... I have only had to replace A-arms when i really plowwed them into something hard ...

Of all the 1/8 buggies I have had I have the most breaks with the rear wings. It looks like almost everyone uses the same mold for the structure. Just that some have more holes than others but the basis superstructure looks almost identical. I will have to look at the metal structure on the Kanai to see if it will fit one of, or hopefully all of my 1/8th's.

This place is too much fun. I love all the different opinions and aspects. I really get a kick when someone makes me look at specific problem with a new passable solution. What did you hit with the Inferno to need to replace the A arms WIWANCZYK?

I needed to replace the A arms after I lost radio controll (powerlines near my house i think) and the car went into a tree full throttle. The other time was when i clipped a track divider with the rear wheel at full speed, it was a direct impact on the wheel ...
otherwise, I have jumped this thing to insane hights, often landing the wrong way ... broken bodies and antenna posts was the worse it got, a scratched engine head here and there too ...

Graupner
Graupner a nice German company. I contacted some people I know in Germany. Here it is a I understand it:
Graupner radios are said to be the kick set up in Germany. I have been informed that JR is the line of theirs in the states. So JR and Graupner are the same.
As for the cars and trucks. Their is no published association between Ofna and Graupner. However it seems that the cars are so close to identical that it might be the same car. However that is speculation. The car is said to be very good. Fast, strong and reliable.
If you have a ofna dealer in your area I would take it there and see what parts might cross. Now keep in mind that most of the 1/8 buggies look very similar. Their are lots of parts that can go from one car to another with little or no modification.
Judging by what my sources tell me you have a great car. Enjoy it.

Crash I asked first so email me with with what you see as proper for me first or I might cry. My experience flying is not in models. A few Cessna's and some connard configurations are my experience. I have never flown a RC plane. I need something that will take a licking and keep on ticking. Electric or nitro.
