ot, but i don't know where else to ask it.
i have an idea and have no idea where to start to get it patented. if anybody can tell me someplace online or the necessary steps i need to take to get this idea on record as my own, i would greatly appreciate your help.

go to google.com do a seach for 'patent submission'. There is that ad you see on late night tv 'patent submission corporation'. Probably pretty straightforward- you pay a fee and they run all of the process for ya.
The government probably operates a patent website with a lot of information about the process and submission.

First you have to research the patent office to make sure it is not already patented. If it is a good design consider getting an attorney to research it for you.
