Default Control Horn Choices

Looking for a control horn like the ones pictured below. (they are from a review of an edge 540 here on RCU)

Are they the best? I like the fact that they are solidly mounted. I know Chip Hyde has a set, but I heard that the bearing falls out. I mainly don't like the way they attach. Do you really need a bearing in there?

Thanks, Steve

Looks like they are made out of G-10. You need a metal sleeve on G-10 to stop the metal clevis pin from enlarging the hole.

I use the Chip Hyde horns after I push out the bearing. Then bolt on a Dubro heavy duty ball link.

I would really like a carbon fiber version of these... ( they would look good ) I wanted to run two parallel like this and a heavy duty Dubro ball link between them with a bolt and a nylon nut.

Any ideas where to get carbon... and would it be ok to run the dubro like that?

BVM makes carbon control horns, they may be to small, I am not sure.

Those precision aerobatics ones are perfect...

Will call in the next several days and see if he can get them. I should be alright using them to sandwich a Dubro heavy duty control rod end right?

On a Dubro heavy duty control rod end, when you use a threaded ball link like the ones from hangar 9, can you also buy bal links that are left hand thread, or do you just cross thread them? I don't really like the idea of cross threading them, as they would not be as strong.

Thanks for the help,

Steve

I guess the next question is what would be the best way to attach the servo arm to the control horn?

Some pictures are off of Tower's website, others are off TBM's website and I reposted the picture off RCU

I like the idea of sandwiching two control horns next to each other with a ball link in between. This will not create any torque at the horn because it is in double shear. Pic 1 shows this.

As for the servo arm side, should I go with Dubro heavy duty arm, standard duty or magnum? There is also the metal link that creates a double shear and would not create any torque, or the plastic version? So many choices, I know I am over thinking this, but why not. All 4-40 of course, I don't think I need 6-32 on a 31% scale if it is done correctly.

I am thinking a Rocket City left hand thread sandwiched between the control horns, a Hangar 9 titanium link and the Dubro metal right hand thread end link at the servo arm, a SWB locking servo arm and a JR8611a servo.

As for throttle, would a 2-56 ball link be acceptable, or should I go 4-40?

I could still run a metal rod and not have metal for the RF to go from the engine to the control arm, there would be a simple plastic ball link.

What plane is this going on?

I'd say use the 4-40 H9 titanium turnbuckles with ball ends. There must be people using the ball ends reverse threaded since many people use the H9 pro links. I'd also use aluminum servo arms.

Those dubro safety clevises come 2-56 and 4-40 and are indeed self-threading. They are not as slop-free as the ball ends though. I've used both.

I will have some CF units very simular to these available soon. They will be a single attachment type that will fork to capture the ball link. Pictures will be posted here next week.
