Does anyone know about the Grumman G-73 Mallard?
I would like to find a kit or plans.

Hi!

I do not know of any kit or plan, but this might help you in your search:
At the 1995 Aspach (Germany) electric RC meeting (one of the largest in the world), there was a self-constructed beautiful Mallard.

Wingspan: approx. 140"
Weight: approx. 24 lbs
Engines: 2 Keller Ke 1 00/9
Drive: 2:1 Kruse
Props: 18x12 three-bladed
Cells: 56x N-1700 SCRX

If you want to find out more about this unique model, I suggest to contact the editors/writers of the Electric RC magazine "Elektro Modell" at:
[email protected]

I am sure they have someone being able to understand and answer your questions in English.
Also, they should be able to give you more details and the name of the builder/owner of the model, because they wrote about the meeting (which is held every year; as far as I know the plane has been flown at more recent meetings, too) and had a color shot in their magazine.

Another idea in case you don't succeed: Search the web for a Grumman Albatross kit ("G&P sales" and other manufacturers) and you might be able to modify it to represent a Mallard.

I love that plane, too!
I got a little electric Albatross from "hvp models", about 56" span.

Regards,
Matt

thanks very much for your help. I will look for the electric guys info and see how far i can get.
I too love mallards, they are however a rare breed. The airline I flew for lost all but two in a hurricane. The only ones left in service that I have found are in Fl. (chaulks airline ) and England.

Chas,

Just found two pictures of that specific model in the net!
The builder's/owner's name is Marcel Henrick.
Hewas/is a member of the Aero Club Oestrich Winkel.

thanks for the photos. Here is one of our G73T. The turbines sure did make life easier.

But I still love the round motors best

Ah, the 1340. Mallards,Norseman, and Harvards, all had the same powerplant. They were absolutely no problem in this configuration. Put that *******ized gearbox 1340 in the Otter, nothing but a pain in the a**. Needs a nice smooth hand on the throttle, or you are raining exhaust valves on the world below

Hi Chasot, Bill Price owner of G&P Sales has a big Grumman Mallard kit that he sells. I own his 85 inch Grumman Albatross that I will be starting this winter. He makes nice kits you may want to drop him an email or call him. He is a real nice guy and my Albatross is pretty scale. So I am sure that the Mallard is also a nice kit http://www.rcairplane.net/index4.html

Chas,

Just in case you didn't observe rcuniverse, lately:
Check out www.kamodels.com offering a new electric Mallard kit with 50" wingspan.

Regards,
Matt
