I have recently purchased an MVVS 35 gas motor and also got a round backplate mount for this engine. But I have a problem with the screws that came with it to replace the screws that hold the engine backplate. The problem is that they seem to be a little too long and with the mount on there is a small gap between the engine and the mount, about 1/16". Am I doing something wrong? Is this a common problem? Whould the original screws that came with the engine be ok to use with the mount?

The mount is the original MVVS mount for the engine.

Please measure the original back-plate bolts and the bolts included with the backplate mount.

The length difference should be roughly the thickness of the back-plate mount.


If about 1/16" is left unscrewed, they must be a bit too long.

Use an extra 1.6 mm thick washer, between the bolt's head and the back-plate mount and make sure the bolts all tighten properly on it. Alternatively, grind the threaded tips of the bolts by 1.6 mm, so they would engage to the same depth as the original bolts.

Using the original bolts would have them under-engaged in their thread, in the engine's crankcase, which may lead to the thread being pulled out...

I have one more question. My engine did not come with a bottle of oil. I see in the manual that you have to break it in with the oil that comes with it and then use synthetic 2T Racing oil. Is the MVVS oil different than the synthetic one? What oil could replace the MVVS oil?

Just use ordinary 2-cycle oil for the first 4 litres of fuel, mixed at 30:1.

Afterward change to JASO FC, or better rated oil, mixed at 40:1.


The 26 and 35 cc engines don't come with the break-in oil; just the 45 cc and larger engines.

I have a couple more questions, I hope I'm not getting on your nerves yet[:@]. This is my first gasser and my experience is minimal. So, here I go...

1. I got a Great Planes Kill Switch for this engine. How do I connect it to the MVVS? Should it go between the ignition and its battery or is there some other way?

2. I am having trouble with the throttle linkage. If you have any photos or any instructions I whould appreciate it very much.

Hi, sorry to butt in to this form, I bought a MVVS 35 for my Seagull edge 540.

So far no Mobil Racing 2T oil can be found in this city. (Kuwait, only lots of the local blends...) I did find Briggs & Stratton Ashless 2 - Cycle Oil with fuel Stabilizer. Would this stuff be any good? Another brand I found in a boat/Quad bike shop was Polaris Racing 2-Stroke oil.
Any comments would be welcome.

Secondly, the running in process,
1) planning to use an Master Airscrew 18 x 6 (wood) prop. Any good?
2) how do I run this engine in?
My experience in on glow mainly on YS 4 strokes, not relevant here....

You shouldn't 'hijack' the thread from Serafim.
There is no problem starting your own, but I would answer this anyway.

An 18x6 prop is much too small for this engine! It is the minimal load for the 26 cc MVVS engine.

Use a minimum 18x10, 20x8 prop.


About oil; if it has a minimum rating of JASO FC, it is good enough to be used in any MVVS gas engine, regardless of which is the company that produces it.
