Default Airbrushed Canopy Gallery

To all,
I've been airbrushing lexan rc bodies for awhile and I recently took on the task of pimping out the DF a little more. I've listed two canopies on eBay for auction. The realistic flame one speaks for itself, but the purple and green one is still just as tight. The pictures really don't give them any justice. I've attached some pictures so tell me what you guys think.

Nice work! They look really cool. I'll have to consider getting one--but first I have to get my DF back into the air (I'm about to post a crash report). []

Ooooooooo! I like the red flame one. How much? I don't do eBay. Lost a bunch of money one time. Help a fellow Draganflyer out and it will come back to ya!

Let me know,
Steve

Yeah, I should have mentioned: I don't do eBay either....Way too much hassle, and their support is truly awful.

I'm sorry to hear that you guys don't care for eBay. I've never had any problems as of yet anyway. A for the canopy I'd like to sell it some wher in the neighborhood of 30 dollars. The time it takes to prep and airbrush is really time consuming. Not to mention I'm working with a lexan body smaller than most rc cars. I'm not doing this to get rich by any means it's just a fun hobby that I'm actually finding time for once again. Thanks for the interest. I'll kep you guys in mind once I paint up another one. I guess I'll just stick with the flames for now. The purple and green one is cool in itself, but I must say that the flame one takes the cake. It's a little more time consuming since I have to use 5 different colors, but in the end it's certainly worth it. Thanks for the interest!!!

Sounds like the first episode of American Draganflyer.

I'll give you that for it right now + shipping. Just let me know. You do good work, and I'll pay for it. I have done eBay before and yes it is generally good but I had an experience with something very expensive and well, I'm still waiting for some kind of re-embursement (almost 2 years now).

Koop,

One thing to keep in mind, you're really eliminating most of your market on eBay by restricting the auction to US only.

I'm in Canada and would have surely bid on it. Plus, toys are excempt from any duty and taxes when crossing the border so it is even more appealing than electronics or other products listed.

If you make the auction available worldwide, then you get every DF'er out there bidding. Just charge more for shipping (it would probably be a few extra buck to ship as air parcel). I've sent similar sized items to Australia for under $10 air parcel. The only paperwork you need to fill out at your end is a small tag for declaring it's contents and value....that's it!

Just a suggestion

Given that DFI charges $15 for a basic clear canopy (those really ought to be more like $5!), $30 for a custom-airbrushed one is a great price! I'm still concentrating on getting my DF back into the air. But once I get confident that I'm not going to crash it every time I fly it, I'll definitely be interested in a canopy! Would you be willing to do a custom design (for more $$)?

Thanks for the interest everyone. I'll let you guys know when I have the time to airbrush another canopy. It truly is time consuming, but I enjoy it so it's not all that bad. Just send me an email when you get a chance ([email protected]) and I'll let you know when I can get to it. I still need to place an order with RCToys for more canopies and we all know how long that can take. As for custom jobs, I'm more than happy to hear your ideas and suggestions. Please nothing to crazy though, I'm still learning the tricks of the trade. Thanks again for the interest!!!

I know you guys are going to hate me after I post my new canopy design. I'll be out of town for the next two weeks, but I promise to air brush some canopies that will be similar in design. If anyone wants to purchase the Dragon design I will be selling it for 45 dollars + shipping. I know that price sounds steep, but each canopy cost me 23.00 dollars in materials and about 3 hours to air brush. So all in all it's still a pretty good deal. If anyone has ideas as to what would be a cool design for the DF canopy let me know and I'll give it a try.

I don't think you don't need to justify your rates. Your time is important. I was wondering about opaque canopies and heat retention though. Black is going to absorb heat which will increase the temperature under the canopy. Could this affect the DF's performance because of more heat surrounding the circuit board, specifically the gyros and/or Ti sensors?

SkyHigh,
I haven't had any issues flying with the canopies being painted. With all the vents in the canopy I really can't see it as being an issue. Great observation though, I never really thought about it.

$45 for that quality work is "steep"? Sounds like a major bargain to me!

GREAT Job on the canopys!
How about a camoflage one!
I was just at my local hobby store and they
had these skins you use on pine wood derby cars.
Kinda like paint, but without the paint.
Look like they might work...

Skyhigh,
What color is the TSU??
Is'nt it Black???
Maybe for night flying?

I think it's black to scare the bad guys and impress the military types...Now, all they need to do is come up with "razor rotors" and they're all set!
