It looks fantastic and not too surpised that you enjoyed it. I've been reading so many maiden horror stories on kitbashed or modified planes that ended in complete loss.
Seems like you're going to have a real fun plane that will last a long time.
Now ... how do I get to fly it? When's the USA tour?

Way to go! I was a little scared at teh beginning of your post but I'm glad to see you got it trimmed out. Maybe it's the photo but it looks like the wings have some dihedral in them? Is that true or is the top of the wing still flat from tip to tip?

Unless something is very wrong with the plane on the flight all picturees are making fool of us. However plane flies great and inverted flies hands-off the same as straight up.
The only thing I need to improve is just a bit of right thtust. On hover engine pulls left a bit, but because I have stand-off mount I can easy add 1 degree right.
Now let's cross our fingers the weather will cooperate this Saturday.

Ok, bet it's just the illusion then with the colors and all. The proof is in the flight performance obviously.

When I was thinking about dihedral, it is just impossible. The way the wing is designed, it just can not be done. The line of the upper spar is parallel to the wing tube - it can't be otherwise because the holes in ribs are cut that way (I've checked that ). It is just impossible to built the wing with dihedral unless the wing tube is bent up. But it is not, because this CF tube will break first before it bents a bit.
I think the shadow on the bottom of the wing plays with camera and our eyes.
So, are you coming to MASM for flying? For sure the weather will be much better than on the East Coast

let us know how it flys after the el and rud mods.

I decided to use electric pump smoke system on my other Edge (Powerline). It flies great light 3D but I would make it rather scale flying and smoke should add some taste to it.

I use this subject as an excuse, so I can THANK OMP TEAM again. You guys rock. All of you.
Dion, special big thanks for supporting me from very beginning (and defending me from Mike sometimes)
Mike, very special thanks to you for all your technical help and support. I really mean it.

This weekend I asked Dave to fly the %%% out of this plane. Dave (Planebender) is excellent pilot so I wanted to see what this plane is capable of when the limit is on the plane, not the pilot (like me).
Camera man missed whole bunch of fun but still we got some glimps how H9 should fly in the first place.
Here is the link to the video (I was limited by 10MB size so the quality is not the best in the world)[:'(]
This is AVI with DIVX 5:

or here a little less quality WMV format:

Really nice! Quite the payoff for your work and innovation. That thing just floats in for landing! Don't know that I'm quite ready to trade my skinny Edge for your Fatty, but I know what to do if I run across a good deal on an H9. Power to weight is one thing, but wing loading is everything.

Hey....do you think that same wing will work on a Midwest Giles 202? Thanks Capt,n

I was looking through the internet, asking people to make me a wing (I never designed such big wing) but if I got the response, the price was higher than the whole new ARF. OMP was the only one who responded "no problem" (THANKS DION). And I'm very happy I took that chance.
BTW, this Sunday I took GWS Tiger Moth (that foamy one) and E-Hawk 1400 (glider) to get just relaxed. Dave asked me, why didn't I bring my Edge. I said that I wanted just relaxed flying today. He laughed and asked: "What can be more relaxing, that flying this Edge?"

RE: Wing kit from Edge 540T 80inch span
I found something interesting flying the Edge this weekend. It does not a matter how big the wing is or how low wingloading is as much as how good the wing design is.
After I took out the smoke system and replaced mejzlik prop with wooden Nx, the plane became to much tail heavy for my comfort however it still flies great. It is too touchy on elevator for me, and fast on snap rolls, but still flies like a 5 oz foamy. When I cut the power the plane drops the tail and then baloons until the speed is blended and then it likes to fly on high alpha unbelievebly slow. You can almost walk with the plan that hariers on idle without any signs of wing rocking, not mentioning snapping. I mean I'm so stressed not used to fly so slow, that I'm affraid the plane will just fall out of the sky. Nothing like that. It's still up there
It took me few attempts to figure out how to land this puppy. Every time I approached I was to fast, and to high. Finally I got it on slow harrier on final and let it just harrier down for three point landing. The roll out didn't take more than 20 ft. It seems like if aimed right the plane can land on my backyard And all the way down there is no signs of wing rocking or snapping. The plane lands like a parachute.
Nx 20x8 prop gave quite improvement on the static thrust over the Mejzlik 20x8. It looks like Brison 2.4 like to give more torque than speed. Now I have enough thrust to speed up verticaly from hover. And this light wooden prop spools up much faster over Carbon Fiber Mejzlik.
But so far I don't like it so much tail heavy. Unfortunately there is nothing inside I can move forward so I guess I will end up with some piece of lead in the nose. I believe it needs no more than 4 oz next to the engine.
All what I wanted to say, is that this Edge would be great flying plane even with smaller wing as long as the wing has flying characteristic of mine OMP-based wing. OMP - good job on this design.
