Top-Flite P-51 From the ground up!
Nice work!!!
how about some close ups on the doors...im going to do the same, but was thinking about it a little differently. I also bought the sequencer from UP. im trying to look at the pic and see what type of hinges for the doors??? i was going to use BVM offset hinges or just some Klett hinges.
here is a pic for you if you REALLY wanted to make that baby look even nicer (if that is possible)
yup, its a scale ground adjustable CF prop, not a static one either.
goes with my reduction drive,
i have a DA 50 in my Extra. swings a 23x10 mej at 6690 and a 24x8 menzS at 6540..AWESOME engine...the drive will accept it as well, and the engine fits entirely within the cowl.
nice cowl btw, is that a stans lower cowl??
cheers
joe

I'll be back at'ya with a better post, but here are the gories:
Schlage cabinet hinges, slotted into a piece if 1/4" 9ply birch.
Will replace the area of center section mangled for the install.
Stans cowl.
You made the prop? I have scale static props for the P-51 and the Corsair.
Later!

dOOD!
Your prop drive is OFF THE HOOK!
But how would I get that in my TF P-51?????
What is the output RPM?
Do you get 'more power' or just swing a bigger prop slower?
greg
PS I'll get you some pics of the canopy mech if you promise not to laugh. I'm really fairly novice at this stuff, and always work around major changes to the kit airframe.
More to come.

RE: Top-Flite P-51 From the ground up!
Really like to see those canopy pictures, and since i am still learing all about making that kit look better, please post them
As for the reduction drive unit.
I am having them manufactured in the US. the Warbirdpropdrive is currently set up to fit the
DA 50-R and the ZDZ 50. The idea is to spin a scale prop and make the plane look better and still give you good performance.
I have 2 guys doing the testing on the drives now. We are also making the scale prop which is ground adjustable. Current prop for 1/5 Scale Mustang is 26x24. Pitch is ground adjustable, however it is something that you would not have to make lots of adjustments to.
The current RPM on the big prop is 4400 RPM. We may change the ratio so we can get more RPM, but the calculations show that will produce 100 MPH and 43# of thrust.
My friend Roger Forgues has built a really nifty test stand that we are going to use next week to get actual, measured thrust numbers to compare to the calculated thrust numbers. should be interesting
We will be at the Edinburg fly-in as well as Toledo. I'll have several drives at Toledo with a couple props as well as (with some luck) a drive mounted in a TF P-51.
I'll be updateing my website in the next few days especially if the company doesnt make me go flying monday.
cheers

Greetings
I have heard that it is a good idea to beef up the area around the retracts, W4 & W5 and the retract rails. Has anybody else heard the same thing ?

Hello Sagacity,
What are you using to properly sequence the doors and the retracts?
How are you getting the doors open and close?

Joe,
You willing to share the info on the gear door design and setup? Also looking for information on setting up a sliding canopy? Working on TF Giant Scale P 51

RE: Top-Flite P-51 From the ground up!
I had a stroke back in August 2004. Before this stroke I had built a P-51. I also bouught a Moki 2.10 to power it with. I also have a TF Corsair (GS) on the dining room table. The P-51 is finished constuction. The Corsair is 80% done. I need some help on the gear doors for both as well as the canopies on both. I wanted them to have sliding canopies if possible. Do you guys have a reccommedation for 3 views? I have not decided on a paint scheme for my Mustang yet. I live less than 2 hours from Joe Nall and need your help to keep me from being embarassed next time I go there. Help me if you can.
