How do you know if a oneway bearing is broken?

Take the engine out, take the starter off and chaeck it. It would grab(not turn) in one direction withiut also turning the engine over and the other way it should turn freely.

There are cheap and easy to replace, your local hobby shop should have them in stock.

Take some brake cleaner or carb cleaner and spray the OWB down. Let it dry and it should make it last a little longer. But OWB are no bigy and they dont cost a whole lot either. There very simple to take out and replace.

First spray out the OWB with WD-40. Then sand the shaft on which the OWB rides. this will let OWB grip better, and no more slipping for a while.

Sand length ways on the shaft, not around.
I've done it and not had any problems since.

also take a rage or paper towel and turn it and hold the one way this will get some of the dirt and grime out.
