Default Only two rotors spin?

I took my DF V Pro out today and actually had a GREAT flight for the first time. I maintained full controll with TI on and flew around for about 15 minutes on my first battery.
I landed smoothly and changed the battery. I always "hop" the DF a few times to trim it out between flights.

This time, something different is happening. Only the right and left rotors are spinning. If I move the throttle up one click from a dead stop, the four rotors begin to almost spin. Two clicks up on the throttle from a dead stop make all four rotors spin slowly. On the third click up on the throttle from dead stop, the right and the left rotor kick into high gear and the front and rear rotors come to a complete stop as if no power is going to them. The DF simply spins in a circle to the left.

I have disabled TI and performed the same test with the same results. If I hold the DF by the base plate and pivot it all the way around, the front and rear rotors are still dead. If I give the DF FULL throttle, the front and rear rotors evetually kick on at about half the power of the right and left rotors and if I continue to pivot the DF around on its axis, eventually it appears to balance itself out and distribute power evenly. From there I can let it go and maintain an almost normal flight.

I also noticed what appears to be power cutting out on the DF, every few seconds for about a 1/10 of a second. I beleive that Sky High had a similar problem so I will look for that post again.

Any ideas? I am going to give DFI a call tomorrow.

Thanks,
Mo

Default RE: Only two rotors spin?

Unless there's something seriously wrong, the rotors will rarely all spin at the same RPM at very low throttle. Once you spin them up enough to hover though, they should all be about the same speed while adjusting to inputs. Sometimes if Ti is not optimal or the level is not good, two rotors will seem to operate very erratically. Make sure that you are performing the level calibration, left stick down and to the right after arming it with Ti.

As far as the intermittent loss of operation, it has happened to alot of us. No-one seems to know why. It can't be a power loss from the battery because that would make it reset and fall out of the sky. Once you lose power it can't fly again until it's re-armed. So, power is still available but is being interrupted to the motors somehow. What's even worse is when it happens 2-3 times successively. Just when you think it recovered, it does it again.....and then again and then flies fine.

Thanks Sky. The front and rear rotors don't even begin to spin unti the throttle is on FULL though so there must be some issue. Hopefully DFI can provide some guidance.

Thanks for your input.

Default RE: Only two rotors spin?

Hey guys,
Right after I bought my DF mine was having the same issue. Only 2 rotors were running until I got to higher throttle. This was because two of my motors were not precisely level and I had the trim almost all the way to one side on the left stick to compensate. Consequently only 2 rotors spun to compensate for the other 2 that were spinning at an angle. I just leveled the motors and then slid the trim back to the middle. PRESTO it was fixed. All rotors spin relatively equal. I called Spectrolutions last week and they told me that the gyros were not built to work at very low throttle therefore (low current) and to expect a little inconsistancy in rotor speed until I gave it enough throttle to get it light on the skids or higher.
I hope this helps. PAulb.

Yes, the trims do need to be centered when calibrating. The board is made so you shouldn't be able to arm the DF with the throttle engaged or with any trim set to an extreme position. This is so you won't experience a sudden out of control action due to something being set to high.
