Most people in my area stay away from them. The best you can do is get a good 2 or 3 stage air filter similar to 1/8 scale and keep it clean and oiled.

I have some proof from my experience with MS filter. Put a clean white tissue paper into the filter neck after a few runs, the tissue turn out oily black, after some modifications... nothing but some AFO on the tissue that I put in the neck.

I use a coil of spring that fit the inner hole of the foam to prevent it from collapsing.

A exhaust gasket plus lots of grease (not shown here) at the bottom to stop air / dust coming through this area.

This is a nice filter as the power boost and longer run time between maintainence, but there's flaw that I think I fixed.

If you haven't got the filter, go with stocker, RB or 1/8 buggy filter... they work properly, but I like my MS the way I modified it

Keep the stock traxxas filter and buy a few more of filters and the filter housing, when it gets dirty pop it off and put a clean one on.

Never seen a need to use anything but a Motor Saver, GREAT filters.
