Anyone got a Graupner Turbo Raven?
I'm going through another of those 'what shall I get next?' moments and I'm toying with the idea of a Graupner Turbo Raven. I've seen the awesome videos that were posted here but other than that I can't find much info.
Does anyone have any photos of the kit?
Any experiences of the build?
Any comparisons/differences to the Airworld version that looks a similar size?
How ARTF is it? Do you need to fabricate cooling ducts etc or has this all been thought out?

Slick
I still have mine and have a friend who is flying one.
Kit is not scale-AW kit is much closer.
Graupner offer an ARTF kit in Red or White, the wings and tailplane halves are foam/wood and very light.
Model comes out around 10kg and has 50kg thrust with an SPT-5!
The model will accept both the JetCat or Wren units.
The assembly is a week of spare time, very easy. If you want to use the Raven scheme the bird it is marked on the fuselage, but it needs painting on. You also need a bird decal which I can offer.
Model is designed around a pop bottle tank which gives 10-12 minutes with the JetCat unit.
If you get one set it slighly nose heavy compared with instructions and its worth setting a mix to raise ailerons as its a floater on landing.
There are a few motor mounting mods that is worth while, phone me if you want details 01923 465712

ROFLAO!!! lol!~) 27" prop at 7K? I'd like to see 55lbs on a digital scale.
Siclik, The skygate gets my vote because of size and shape, with a Wren turbo prop.

A 27X12 menz @ 7000 rpm = 75lbs of thrust static

Thanks for the replies. The Skygate one looks awesome but it is 900 Euros more expensive than either the Graupner or Airworld Version. The Airworld one looks pretty good too but I am a little concerned that the build instructions may not be the best. All three of the websites (including the Graupner one) don't really give a lot of info about the models but having owned a Graupner Kangaroo I would be fairly confident that the instructions supplied would be pretty good. There are threads on RCU that mention Airworld doesn't even tell you the c.g.

50KG...
I have my SPT-5 set to 9000rpm...
The Graupner instructions are perfect. Pictures and text. Though there is little building, wings are finished except anti rotation pin and servo install.
Tails dito
Fuselage wood work is in and all the work is in engine hatch fitting and canopy.

RE: Anyone got a Graupner Turbo Raven?
110lbs of thrust!?! Wow!
For those who have mentioned the Skygate Raven, I believe this is a short vid of it - no sound on this machine so not totally sure!!

If I like my SG Hawk enough I might even dabble with their Raven!

Mark

Nope that is a Graupner one...
Martin Schemp from Graupner flying with a 24 x 12 prop in the days before noise was an "issue" in Germany

Dave, Jetcat quote 55lb of thrust at 7000rpm with a 27" prop. I'm sure another 2000rpm cannot double the thrust to 50kg or 110lbs?????

I have never measured it, but Graupner told me 50kg on a 24 x 12...
It's more than 55lb as I cannot hold my Raven at full power one armed...it pulls me across the grass.
You can vary static thrust with prop size and pitch...Figures are not important...its more than enough!

Dave,
How can you claim 50kg of thrust if you have never accuratley measured???????
Also, at that rpm .... do the motors stay together for any length of time before they fail?????
Respectfully submitted,

Any flying tips for turboprops?
I guess you treat it like a jet rather than a prop but are there any gotcha's? How bad is the torque (or P Factor)? Is directional control difficult?
How hard is ground taxying? Do you use brakes?

Make sure your u/c is 100% reliable! Not like landing a glo/gas engine deadstick with the gear up - you are more than likely to damage the engine by landing on the fuse/prop.

RE: Anyone got a Graupner Turbo Raven?
The one thing I noticed about the TP power versus regular gas prop power is that the rotating propeller disc on a gas motor provides braking on final....the TP will just windmill, as there is no compression to aid in the braking. So it does take a bit of forward thinking on final. Bring it in under power with full flaps...basically the same as setting up a jet for final...
As far as ground handling, just remember the spinning prop. Most "jet " guys don't like the TP planes at a jet event. When I do fly at these venues, I never taxi back into the pits.
happy holidays.......
