Default New Nylon Blades Vs. Folding Nylon Blades

Was hoping to get a few seasoned flyers to chime in on what they think of the Folding Blades. I like the idea of being able to put the heli in the case I have without having to remove the blades.

Pros and cons, likes and dislikes!?

I got a SAVS with the folding blades.
Pros: It fits in the case.
Cons: They sometimes fold alittle when spooling up and and on landings....If they do they hit the gear and cut the bottom of the blade.
Also if you fly without TI and alittle agressive they will hit the gear on fast turns.

I like the One piece blades I just put them on at the field and take them off to put the DF back in the case...Takes 2 mins. no biggie.
Happy Flyin,
Lacey

I have both, the DF came with the folding blades so I flew it with them until one broke. Then I got tired of straighting them out and switched to the one piece. Never went back...Denny

Yep, I agree with Lacey. I had my doubts when I first saw them. They are convenient for storage and are fine for close proximity non-aggressive flight and hovering. I don't like how they pivot, especially with how the HD motors jerk when spinning up and down. I have carefully and slowly reduced the throttle after landing with these blades using the standard motors and they are still slightly off center or skewed after completely stopping. This indicates it is happening during flight and not just from a sudden stop of the rotors. Also, because of the pivoting, the distance from tip to tip is shorter making them off center which could cause vibration in addition to the fact that each rotor head will also be experiencing this. Although you can barely see it, all of the motors pulse while the DF is in flight because that's how it constantly adjusts for the DF to be able to fly. These constant pulses are possibly slinging the blades off center and then they self correct because of centrifugal force. A one piece rotor does not experience this so that is why I prefer them. I would love to shoot this thing with a high speed camera just to see what's going on for sure. I think I will try this because my video camera can shoot 1/15000 of a second.

I would LOVE to see that! Those could be some very interesting shots...
