I got one just like it at Superman, I could not resist that big "hawg" on the tail. I weathered mine out a little with pastel chalks and clear coated it. I have her ready to fly and hope to maiden her soon. Mine is powered with the Artes Super Bee. Tommy

Robert,
I can hardly wait to see you fly the F-16 at FJ's. You will make this model shine with your flying skills, just thinking about those smooth nose high landings you'll make is killing me.

Bandit-Robert That f-16 is awesome!! ,I am expecting my Tam F-16 kit ,(all white)Today, I am pretty sure I am going with an Artes Super Bee, I will be painting it a Gray and red scheme also, with weathering. Banditarf Robert, are the markings on your plane Water transfer decals , or are they the stick on type? I want to get some markings ,but I want water transfer markings, I don't like the way the stick -on graphics look with the shinny carrier sheet on the plane , especially if you are doing a flat finish. any recommendations on what paints to use anyone? , I have automotive painting equipment, and experience, Thanks, Jack.

The markings on the "special edition" are not shiny, they look like they are painted on, they are probably dry transfer, I never asked Tam. I know that I weathered mine with chalks and an airbrush and then clear coated it with semi gloss and I was quite happy with the finished product.

Hey guys,

I have a Cermark F-16 with a brand new set of Tam's retracts. I seems to take for ever to make my landing gear cycle properly, that is, when I fill up my air tanks and try to retract the gear, the struts do not move and the BVM valve basically leaks air out, then when most of the pressure is gone the struts will begin to rotate.

Now, if I do this several times, I can get the gear to work fine. But every time I work on my model I must cycle like this. My only worry is that I fuel up at the field and then take off and the gear won't retract- and there goes another crappy flight with the gear down. However, the gear WILL come down on relatively loww pressure.

What coudl be wrong, the wiring seems fine and the gear DOES operate normally after 5~10 cycles.

Thanks,

David

David,

I had ONE of my mains do that when it was new. I think that unclejoe took several pictures of it flying around at the Tucson Rally with one gear hanging down! I found that I was putting TOO much air pressure on the system. Once it was cycled a few times to use up the air, it worked fine. The problem is that the retract gets jammed in the down position and you need to help it manually to retract...hard to do in the air. After a few flights, the unit loosened up and it works fine now. When you extend the gear in the pit area, you might want to grab the struts in order to keep them from slamming down and jamming until things loosen up a bit. I hope that this helps.

Tailwinds,

John

PS.........I found the pic!....................

I have had this happen before and contirbuted it to a sticky o-ring in the valve. I make it a habit to cycle my gear a few times prior to starting up, just to get everything loosend up. When I go fly, I usually only need to cycle the gear prior to the flight, after that the plane is good for the rest of the day.

David, the sound you are hearing is the air passing by the o-ring that has "rolled" rather then "slid" and cycling the gear as mentioned straighten's that puppy right out. Since the air systems are dry (no oil/lube) it sometimes needs a kickstart.

Hope this helps,
Dave

I'm going to give it a try. I am using 110~115psi and I have noticed that it also works fine on 80 psi (once the gear has been cycled a few times). I will loosen up on the pressure and try to "break it in".

Thanks guys,

David

Scott,
Did not fly it that day, it was an opporunity to run up the engine and make sure everything was set up right. I have not made it back up to Pulaski. We have a display here in a couple of weeks and after that I plan on making it back up there, or maybe bring it down to Atlanta with me in February when we meet down there.

David

Try to manualy cycling the gears by pushing them up and down slowly with no air in the system, if they are hard to cycle ( they should give you a smoth cycle when doing this ) then, I like to recommend to open the air cylinders ( basicaly take the retracts out and apart ), clean the inner parts ( "O" rings too) and lube them, you will probably get a black residue on you cleaning papertowel.

I hope this help ( had it happened to me last night on a new set )

I use O-ring lube on all my gear pistons form BVM and that works really well, this should be part of your regular maintenance as well as doing it with any "new" sets of gear. Thin Lube I think its called.
