Which is the most competitive RTR?
I'm looking for a buggy for my dad, for a while we wanted 4wd, now we're thinking 2wd, I wanted him to get a kit but he doesn't want to spend over 500-600. I added up the cost of a Spektrum radio, Novak racing brushless system and other stuff, it was $800. My dad said that was too much.
I think the factory team kit of the RC10B4 looks pretty good, my dad wants RTR though, in that case maybe the Evader BX Pro?
My dad wants to race and doesn't want to show up to the track with a noob-mobile, Traxxas and other "noob" brands are out of the question.

RE: Which is the most competitive RTR?
Great, now it looks like the factory team kit is ideal,
I have a few questions,
1.) what ESC should I use with the Reedy 19T Quad Mag? I would like to go with the one of the cheap LRP AI ESCs with reverse, (around $50) but if they aren't enough the Novak GTS Pro Sport ESC is an option ($75). I would like to go cheaper where possible.
2.) A CHARGER! All I want is something that can quickly charge an SMC NIMH 4200mah stick pack. nothing more, nothing less. I don't need to charge LIPOs. Maybe the Super Brain 959 or something. Keep it around $50, could I get a full charge in 30 minutes?
3.) How much power do I need from a servo? is 80oz at .15 sec enough?
4.) What else do I need? grease? oil? tools? anything?
Thanks!

RE: Which is the most competitive RTR?
RTR's are, by definition, "newbie-mobiles". No way around it, they just are. They always compromise somewhere.
The Duratrax is about as noob as you can get too. And why you think Traxxas is any worse than the rest I cannot figure. Heck, they probably make some of the most race ready RTR's there are. Just look at the Revo. It wins national races all the time in very nearly stock RTR form.
If you're really serious about racing then do it right and get a good kit or at least an ARTR that will let you pick the motor and electronics. The RC10 would be a good place to start. To keep costs down don't worry about brushless right away. Get a good brushed system and learn to drive and control the car before you cram super fast stuff in there. Remember, it's not always the fastest, most expensive car that wins a race, it's usually the most skilled driver.

Yes, that's why I'm looking for the cheaper brushed motors and ESCs.
Could you answer my questions please? Thankyou.

Oh yeah, and what size pinion gear would you recommend with that motor for slightly better acceleration opposed to top speed.

An indoor track with lots of sharp turns and jumps, the ground is hard packed dirt.
Could you help me here:

have you looked into nitros? if he is willing to spend $5-600 i'd say go for a nitro, like a revo or savage, just a thought.

RE: Which is the most competitive RTR?
Are you sure that charger and ESC are that good? I think the LRP AI and Super Brain 959 look a bit better...
Could someone recommend me a nice brushed motor around $30-$60 I was thinking about the Reedy 19T Quad Mag but want something with better low end, and then what size pinion gear you would recommend with that motor for the best balance between acceleration and top speed? Then I want to take away 1 or 2 teeth to give me slightly better acceleration, my local track is a square with lots of curvy track packed into it, the car needs to be able to hit full speed in a 20 foot straight away.
I think I'll just buy the pack of 6 gears and try them all to find which one works best.
Does this look good? which one would you buy?
1.) RC10B4 Factory Team Kit. $220
2.) ESC, either the Associated A.I. Quantum Runner Plus Reverse ESC, the Novak GTS Pro Sport ESC or Novak XRS ESC. Is reverse that important? Is it allowed for racing?
3.) Motor, Team Checkpoint Money 19 Turn Spec Motor, Associated Reedy Spec 19T Quad Magnet Motor or Team Orion Element V2 19T Modified or a different one.
4.) Charger, Super Brain 959 or DTX Piranha digital.
Thanks!

RE: Which is the most competitive RTR?
heres the deal, go to your track, and ask what motors and gearing for that motor to run, a racer with the same car will know, buy that, go race, the duratrax esc is very good, and the charger YOU chose is good too but the duratrax top of the line charger is also VERy good.

RE: Which is the most competitive RTR?
For the money that charger is great.. The Duratrax ICE also looks very good. I use the Pirahna to charge all my packs. I don't really like LRP esc's and neither do most people. They like to burn up and not work very well. Mine is at associated getting repaired or replaced right now. The XRS is a much nicer esc. I didn't know if you could run reverse, but at my track it is allowed. At some, it is not so a m-troniks viper would be a very good bang for the buck or one of the hitec esc's without reverse.
