Fei Bao MB339 Wing Fence location
I have one of these which I am putting together and there is a set of fences in the box (alas no instructions). I also have some three veiws but the fence location is not readily apparent. I was wondering if someone knows exactly where these should go (one large set, which is obviously, I think, for the top of the main wing- and a smaller set of which I am defintely uncertain). I figure the large set goes along the panel line which runs to the inside edge of the aileron, but I want to make sure. Any help would be appreciated.
Also would like to here what method you used to attach them to the aircraft. Everyhting else has seemed ot fall into place. Lots of detail on this model. Other than a few hiccups matching paint colors and these fences it has not been too bad. This is a large bird.

The UAE 339 only has the larger set of wing fences fitted, they are positioned between the two parallel sets of panel lines which line up with the end of the aileron I fixed them by cutting slots to align with the tags on the fences and glued with Hysol. The ventral fins are not too hard to position if you have a scale 5 view such as the one published in Jetpower mag. issue 4 , 2004. If you are stuck I can try to e-mail you the drawings.
How are you getting on with the paint? I have been advised that the colours are BS4800 10-B-21 Hemp, and BS 381C : 361 Light stone on the upper surfaces and BS 381C : 627 Light aircraft grey on the underside. To me these colours look too dark but the aircraft may well have bleached due to the constant exposure to strong sunlight. I am in a bit of a quandry as to whether to paint my model with these colours or to try to copy the photographs [:@]
I did run into a problem with the pin hinges which had been glued into the control surfaces in the wrong location with the result that they would bind on the flying surfaces. I had to cut and drill them out , fill the holes and redrill them, a lot of work! I wish they had not bothered to fit them at the factory! I am gearing up at the moment and hope to start paint in a week or so. Decals are being made by Ralle at present.
Best regards
John

So far I have only had one surface that was binding, and they sent a new set of horizontal stabs. I have an extra right side (if I remember correctly) if you need it. These were received unglued so I managed to glue it in myself with Hysol, no problem.
As to the paint, I went to the paint store and we have been over several photos. We seem to be under the same feelings that this is probably sun bleaching effects and it will be nearly impossible to match. I wish I had your numbers before I purchased the paint, but I am not planning on using it for too much competition, primarily building it for myself.
I got my decal set from Ralf (TailorMade Decals). He is going to supplement my set with a few changes he made due to your photos, I think. I still need the patch for the tail and front section. The decals are beautiful, man this guy does great work, he has a customer for life.
Thanks for tip on the fence, I guess I just needed reassurance. I will need to make the tabs for the vertical stab, I don't believe I have them in my kit. They look pretty simple, and they are not on all the 339's I have seen, do you know their function?
I would appreciate the Jet Power view if you have it, or can tell me where to find it.
Thanks again John

Could you clarify what you mean by the tabs on the vertical stab? I will try to e-mail the scale drawings to you, I have lost your e-mail, please remind me. You can find some good colour scheme info at the Don colour site www.jpsmodelle.de/dc/index.htm.

These llittle wings here on the side of the vertical. They should be simple to replicate, but I do not see them except in a few of the pictures. I may be missing something.

They are radio antenna. They show up in the five view and you might get a better idea from some of the photographs. If you have the relevant MB339 articles from RCJI Colin Strauss describes how to make them. Five views are on their way to your e-mail. Isn't the internet wonderful!

There were three build articles on the 339 starting with August / September 2006 then December / January 2006 and finally February /March 2007 he has buit it as a New Zealand version as per the photo of the vertical stab I sent you. If you don't have them you can probably get back issues from Traplet at www.traplet.com
Tommy, just checked with the traplet USA site and if they don't have back issues they can copy the articles for you.
