Tank Lean Fix
I took this info from a buddy.....
well we've all had our share of tank lean problems and some of us still do...but theres no good list of fixes and what they do......so i started playing with practial ideas that work for keeping a real car from experianceing some of our problems...like hard cornering G's pulling fuel from the carb/injection and hard starting cause the carb/injectors have got no fueal in "reserve" at them....took what i knew and started applying it in rc nitro scale
....alot of testing, re-routeing, replaceing, and alot of fuel line later.....(all tests were done on 2 revo's with 4 engines 2.5, 3.3, 26max, sts30 and 1 "new" revo tank 1 used revo tank and 1 with new seals)
first off the revo tank is a POS when it comes to tank lean...thats obvious..but i have cured it
a "small" durbro fuel filter in the pipe to tank will help clean up the "pulsing" some and just starts to fight tank lean
a "LARGE" 1/8th scale filter in line will not only give you some "reserve run time but when placed ABOVE the carb will help considerably with tank lean and cornering lean
a "coil" (used in the early days of stock car raceing and many other forms but now used as a "chiller" in drag raceing) can cure about 90% of cornering lean and about 50% of tank lean on its own but this depends greatly on space availible, your ability to make said coil, and length of coil...the longer the better..well to a point anyway.....as a bonus the coil will actualy cool and make the fuel a lil more dense or could be placed close to the engine in cold weather to keep fuel from gumming
"primer bulb" i tried it but wasnt to thrilled as it seemed to allow for some wierd presure changes in the carb line(wont rule out a bad bulb setup) but did fix a considerable amount of cornering lean..but considering it was attatched to a semi large filter i cant say that it wasnt the filter doing the job
line length...did ALOT of trial and error with tube length with nothing realy "hard" in the way of results..cause i could try it on 1 truck and try the same fuel line on the other truck or with a diferent engine and get mixed results..i will say this tho..routeing of the carb line does make alot of intresting diferances depending on how its looped or curved....on the exhaust side of things short seems to be best
ive put all of it together and gained a min or so of run time and can lay into corners as hard as i like and never even start to lean out...the tune is the same with the tank sucking dry as it is when its completely full..and all of this on the stock POS revo tank
heres the wifes truck with filters ..note the filter is ABOVE the carb and angled DOWN tward the carb (in the prosses of makeing her a coil)
..i didnt do the greatest job on that coil due to useing copper tubeing but even tho it "looks" kinked its not and its actualy larger ID than the fuel line..note the filter inside the coil..not intentional just didnt have a good way of mounting it just yet..

RE: Tank Lean Fix
I read somewhere that if you lengthen your pressure line, it would reduce half tank lean. I have the mod done, but haven't had much of a chance to try it out. Has anyone else heard of this?

RE: Tank Lean Fix
Well, i have done all of this. It helps alot with low tank leaning. I have put around 2 feet of fuel tubing for the fuel and wraped around the engine, came back to the tank and i zip tied the fuel filter to the mount for the center diff in an angle down towards the carb and raised it above the carb. I took my old fuel filter, took the fuel filter thing out put it back togather and sealed it with silicone and put it in the pressure line. i am going to put a one way valve in the pressure line with the fuel filter to see how that works out. and this was all done on a jammin crt with major low tank leaning problems and fixed it right up! And you got that off of Sh0rtLife from rccna and i really dont think he will apreciate you copying his posts!

I can also verify that adding a larger fuel filter above and close to the carb helps to level out the fuel delivery. It acts like a small hopper tank. As an added benefit, it also increases your upside down runtime for the out of contorl guys like me who keep the corner marshals on their toes.

I tried that one on my maxx, and the result was flooding at low throttle and idle. You may have better luck than me, but when I put the one-way on it would cause pressure to build up in the tank, so it would tend to richen way up at low throttle and idle, and when I shut the truck down the tank pressure would remain trapped, and continue forcing fuel into the engine even after it was stopped, which would usually hydrolock it or at the very least flood it out pretty good. If you do decide to try the one-way, let us know how it goes, I hope your luck is better then mine was.

RE: Tank Lean Fix
i have an inline filter with a primer bulb in it. it is blue and yellow never used can't remember the brand. so you are saying it will help combat the lean problem if i install it above my carb? well this is great news thanx a ton keep the great info coming. if i have this setup how much will the small filter from the carb to the exhaust make? i hate engine lean i tune it just perfect then i get to the bottom and it either starts acting up overheats or does wheelies so horribly i can't control it.
