Default decided to try it again...

hey guys i put my revo up for sale with no luck...so i decided i would try it again and try to get into it...i was getting frustrated because it never start. so i went it tried to start it and the OWB just spun...no turning over. so i took it apart and it was bad...the roto start plate inside was all grinded up...the plastic and metal part inside we're shaven down prob 1/16th of an inch...and all the little rollers on the OWB fell out...and the starter shaft on my 6 tank RB 523 is all scratched and dinged up. i think im going to get rid of the roto start because all it has done is caused my problems...the RB itself looks okay...its a little tight at TDC and when it gets there, the entire sleeve moves up like half a centemeter...then when the piston goes down, the sleeve goes down. is this normal?

if you are saying that the sleeve is moving up and down...I don't think that should be happening since the head sits right on top of the sleeve and should be on tight..

Ok I dont want to sound like a know-it-all but with the amount of OWB's that you have gone through it is my belief that you are starting you're engines improperly.. You've killed two O.S. .18's, now one RB OWB and I dont even want to know what happened with the stock Traxxas one[:-] Lets ask some questions now: What fuel are you using? Do you prime you're engine before attempting to start? How long do you spin you're engine usually? (Most important question) And finally what starter have you been sing? (Pullstart, roto, EZ?) With what you're describing about the sleeve, I assume you are describing that while the head is taken off? If so then that means you're engine is still very tight and I would still heat cycle until around 15 tanks at least on an RB... Good luck.. Tom.[8D]

have you thought about going with a pullstart? i am a total nood still after 2 1/2 years and if you have your engine properly tuned it is the best thing. last time i started my revo it was 1 pull after it sat for about 3 weeks. all i do is blow in the line hooked to the exhaust to prime the fuel up to the carb and bam started and running. i know alot of ppl don't like pulllstart and i guarantee that at least one will come in here and say i'm full of it but i guess to everyone their own.

i use a roto, and i usually dont prime it before i start, i just hold the exhaust pipe so the fuel goes through it that way. and i spin it for probably 5-10 seconds...then it usually starts to revv higher...give it a break...and bam. but that hasnt happened lately. and i believe that it IS the starting system...it always sounded hard on it. i want a pull start. but now my starter shaft is all messed up...

I use a roto-start, and i usually have to crack the throttle a little bit to get it stay on from cold. But if I were to heat-gun it up first, i'm nearly sure that i wouldn't have to crack the throttle.

why woould anybody use a roto start on a traxxas vehicle,,,,,?? I have had 0 problems with the EZ start....I don't use the ignitor wire because its a weak point I agree but the actual spin start is awesome...i also have used the rotostart/and I still use a pullstart on my Stadium Truck. By far the EZ start is the welll...eaziest

^^^^^^^^^^ I agree, but I hate pullstart too. My Sirio .18 P/S is getting loose now, and when I was getting used to it it gave me some nasty blisters[] Maybe thats you're problem Jarett, you're not supposed to spin the roto-start longer than 5 second blips at a time. It even says so on the HPI Roto start. What I do with my Savage is I spin 2 4 second blips to get it primed, and then after attaching the ignitor it starts right up. Never had a problem with OWB's. Are you by any chance using Traxxas fuel? That is probably the culprit if you are...

its weird how everyone says they get blisters from using pullstart...i have a PS on my 3.3 and ive never even had a scratch, blister or any kinda of injury from the PS...and ive had a PS for like over 5 months....maybe big block engines will give you blisters.....or maybe im just stronger than you guys...JK...

its more like you make sure that everything is right before yanking the p/s.....do all the things to ensure an easy start and you should only have to pull 5 times max.

First, fix up what's broken. Second, reinstall the easy start system. Buy some shrink tubing and place the shrink tubling over the wires (I do each separately, then one larger piece over them all). That will eliminate the wires being a problem. Frustration only limits your options. Step back, take a look at what you're doing and why. If you aren't racing the thing - then just use the easy start system and get out there and have fun.

Hey Danju, the Sirio was my first P/S engine so naturally during break in it was a pain to start, must have yanked 70 times that day, ran half a gallon through and had crazy blisters. You know why my hand was hurting that much? Because the damn engine is tighter than any bigblock that I've owned. Tighter than my TRX 2.5, my old HPI S-25, and STS 30 put together

thats makes sense...i didnt have the PS when i did break in (used the EZ start) so i saved myself from getting owned by the little PS.
