Dual batteries
Im thinking to use two batteries in my 80" edge with separate switches and all. How about the cross-sharge... is it an issue?? or should I use something to prevent it?? I have read from giantscalerc.com and heard that its not an issue

always double up
I now use dual batteries in all my planes over .40 size. The reading that Ive done says that cross charge etc would take days and is therefore not an issue. I plug them both in, turn one on, check the voltage, turn it off, turn number 2 on, check the voltage, and fly with confidence that batt. failure will not be the demise of my plane. When I discovered it to be the death of 2 planes, it seems like a no brainer to use dual batts., esp. with NiMH

The battery
Jep thats what Im been thinking too. I made an little test. I connect an almost empty nicd4.8/400mah and full nicd4.8/900mah into futaba 5ch receiver with voltmeter. I connected the full batt. into batterys place and the almost empty one into 5th.ch. waited about an 30 min and nothing happened, no cross-sharging etc.
Ps. I just made a test with those equipment, they will not get even close to my edge

Dual batteries
You will not have enough charge in a full pack to charge a discharged pack. Think of it as a battery with a little resistor in it. With this said, you need a higher voltage to charge the cells. Different capacities is OK but make sure that you are using the same voltage packs.
