Default need robot help

Does anybody have any experience with gear head motors? I am building a robot for a school project and I need to know if I can control gear head motors with a tamiya esc.
Esc [link]http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGMR5&P=7[/link]
Motor: either [link]http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLSM8&P=7[/link]
or something like this [link]http://www.roboticsconnection.com/pc-51-7-dc-gearhead-robot-motor.aspx[/link]

Thanks for your help guys

I'm pretty sure you can. That's a 380, and it should draw much less current than the 540s that your Tamiya ESC handles.

You could run those on that ESC. Check E-bay for cheaper gearheads - $38 each is pricey, especially if it has an encoder you probably won't use. You can also find dual motor controllers on E-bay that will run the gearheads for around the same price as one of those ESCs.

thanks guys, I also have a question about battery chargers

is there any 6cell ac nimh charger cheaper than the duratrax piranha? $50

I am not racing, rather I am using it for a slow robot, so I don't need anything fancy. I am using battery packs between 1500mah and 3500mah. What about the Dynamite Prophet Plus AC/DC Peak $40. Is it a reliable charger? Anything else I should look at? I would prefer a peak charger.

Oh by the way, Serengeti, since you seem to be a robotics guy, do you know of any easily bolt-on-able shaft encoders for 540 motors? It's for a TC project of mine, running on Intellibrain 2.
